Hello Pojo Fans,

Ancient Gear Golem gets an upgrade of sorts with Ancient Gear Golem - Ultimate Pound.

Same stats as its predecessor, but another attack at the cost of a Machine monster from the hand to the grave is a great upgrade. Ultimate Pound destroys a monster, ditch a Machine and then get another attack on a monster or a direct attack, sounds like an even trade. Once destroyed, you can get a Poly from the deck, and, then get an Ancient Gear from your grave if you added the Poly. The search is good if you are running Poly for more than just an Ancient Gear fusion, and the add of an Ancient Gear from the grave can add back a card you used for the second attack this card can do. A downside though is that while Ultimate Pound gained the extra attack ability and search, it loses the protection ability that made Ancient Gears a playable archetype. You'll have to protect him during the Battle Phase against cards, but that second attack could be useful. It retained the piercing damage effect, though I'm sure players would've wanted the protection versus the piercing.

Can't be Special Summoned, loses protection its previous effect had, all negatives. Extra attack is good, but it may not matter in the long run.

Ancient Gear Golem - Ultimate Pound:

We got a decent amount of Ancient Gear support in 2017, and they now have become more of a Fusion archetype as well as improving their beatdown strategy. This card is meant to help Ancient Gears with that new strategy they have, and it is a retrain of Ancient Gear Golem, only adding its anime attack name to it. Ancient Gear Golem - Ultimate Pound.

Ultimate Pound cannot be Special Summoned, just like the original Ancient Gear Golem, as well as it pierces just like the original. Piercing is very powerful on a 3000 body, which made Ancient Gear Golem a decent card when it came out, though it was never really meta relevant. What Ancient Gear Golem has that the retrain didn't get is the ability to lock your opponent out of using Spells and Traps when it battles, so it is weak to Mirror Force or whatever your opponent might use. At least Ultimate Pound has effects to try and make up for its lack of blocking disruption from your battles. Up to twice per turn, if this card destroys a monster in battle, you can discard a Machine to let it attack again. Nice to get around opponent monsters in Defense Mode, but again it would of been nice to have that Spell and Trap protection. Also it can be nice to fuel your GY for if your Ancient Gear Fortress is destroyed or you have Overload Fusion and want to go for Chaos Ancient Gear Giant. If Ultimate Pound is destroyed, you can search a Polymerization from the deck to the hand and get an Ancient Gear back from the GY, except the copy of Ultimate Pound that went to the grave (so you can get another Ultimate Pound).

This does give a little assist to Ancient Gears, but I really wish it had that effect to stop Spells and Traps while battling, as well as I wish it was treated as Ancient Gear Golem somewhere like the hand and field just in case you need to go for Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem. Card is good, but I would still run the original Ancient Gear Golem as well just to have access to Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem when you need it.

Ancient Gear Golem-Ultimate Pound also joins a large family of cards.  It's Earth, Level 8, a Machine, and has 3000 attack and defense, which I imagine sounds familiar if you play these cards or not.  So it can't be Special Summoned (bad), has trample (good), has a pseudo BLS double attack effect (by discarding a Machine after successfully destroying a Monster on the Field) and is pro Fusion.  When destroyed by Battle or Card Effect, you can add Polymerization to your Hand from your Deck.  If successful, you can add another Ancient Gear Monster from your Graveyard to your Hand.  It's interesting that you have to successfully add Poly to get the second effect there, but if you do, you +1 off this guy being destroyed.  He's nifty, I'll give him that.
