OK, the title says it all: we are going to look at
fighting and it is part II of my series on the
different colours of the pokémon TCG. OK, let's start!

Fighting summary:

fighting can be summed up in 1 word- BEATDOWN.
we have the occaisional exception, (hitmonlee or aero)
but mainly beatdown, with cheap and very damaging
attacks.

what you need for a deck of this type in today's
environment-

OK, since the release of fossil, fighting has had
major problems due to all the resistance. But now,
with the release of TR, fighting has lost some of it's
beatdown image, and has an advantage over dark
vileplume (apparently WotC will continue printing DV
non-holo's weakness as fight, as to avoid confusion
and adding erratas to the official rulebook for
tourneys)We now have Dark machoke which gives fighting
the ability, combined with hitmonlee, to hurt
something on the bench, then bring it up and KO it.
Fighting, however, is still a VERY risky type to play
and having a chance with one of the decks depends on
the metagame. For starters, fighting NEED hitmonchan
in their deck as it is just a kick@$$ poké. 'Lee is
recommended, but not a must. If you play fight, you
should also splash another type in to avoid resistance
(e.g. scyther) fight decks. With the ability to dish
out serious damage to the active, you need some GoWs to
bring up more easy kills. You should put in a few more
than usual. (this is no problem, since you don't need
thst much energy  for fight, and you can save some
space by cutting back a bit) Another must is a card
that is an exception to fight's beatdown strategy and
disrupts. here are a few I could find-

GoW
ER/SER
Dark Machoke
Hitmonlee
aerodactyl
lass

Overall pros & cons-

pros-

*REALLY efficient attacks
*have the hitmons, which are both really good in their
own ways
*have aerodactyl, which stops evolutions, providing
you get it off in time
*attacks give you more bang for your buck

cons-

*no status changing pokés
*mainly beatdown
*EVERY type has at least one card that resists
fighting
*most fighting stage 1's SUCK
*fight decks always revolve around 1 or 2 pokés

overall:

fighting is better teamed with another colour
(preferably psy, because they cover each other's
weakness) and is a bit of a gamble to play nowadays.
If you do make a fighting deck, make sure you have
disruption cards inclued and a splash to cover
resistance. Stick with another type for now, but a
couple expansions later, try fighting. just not now,
it is too risky.

oh, and just for those who want a sneak peek of the
next edition of my colour analysis, next time I am
covering psychic, my fave type (don't worry, I won't
be biased, and they are a cool type)
