Hey Pojo,
I havn't written much to Pojo's TCG Strategies for a while, so here's one
to start back off with a bang. As you saw in my title I will help you to at
least have the counterparts you need in your deck, for at least getting a 2nd
in a tournament.:
Pokemon
1.Come up with a GOOD strategy. It may take awhile, but the wait is worth it
in the end.
2.Find Pokemon that go WITH your strategy. If you are making a Haymaker, do
NOT add something like Onix. He is not fast at all and his Retreat cost is
too high for Haymakers liking. Chansey is a little odd in Haymaker, due to
the fact that it takes 2-4 turns to power up.
3.ALWAYS INCLUED FIGHTING AND PSYCHIC RESISTANT POKEMON!!!!! In the end this
WILL pay off.
4.Try to have Pokemon that really dish out in the environment you are in. If
there are many Scythers, Electabuzz, and Hitmonchans in your area, have
Hitmonchan, Magmar and  Promo Mewtwo!! These Pokemon are included in my
denominator deck, that I will list near the bottom. It is a pretty good
example to kick off with in a Haymaker style environment. If you wanna skip
all the hastle of going after weaknesses, just build Potpourri!! Right Scott??
5.Try to keep your Pokemons retreat cost low, along with the attacks.
6.Throw in a fast attacker such as, Hitmonchan.
7. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT ADD POKEMON INTO DECKS JUST BECAUSE. The dumbest
thing I have ever seen is a Snorlax in a Haymaker Potpourri...or...a
Charizard in Raindance!!
8.Try adding some diverse Pokemon such as, Scyther or Ditto.
Trainers
1.See what your strategy is, and then boost of from there.
2.I will use my Denominator deck for example:Drawing power, while still being
able to stall.
3.For fast decks: Add Bill, Prof.Oak, Gambler, Comp Search, PlusPower, Gust
of Wind, etc...
4.For slow or stalling decks: Pokemon Centers, Scoop Ups, Gamblers...etc...
5.Energy Removals,Gust of Winds, Item Finders,Bills,Prof.Oaks-all necessary
in a good deck.
6.Add Scoop Up to an all out big basic deck, such as Haymaker. Scoop Up gets
stripped Pokemon, or damaged Pokemon out of trouble.
7.Fast decks do need something to be able to stall when they use all 4Bills
and 3Prof.Oaks. Gambler is perfect.
Energy
1.Have energy depending on if what deck you use. If you have low energy add
Energy Retrieval. Let's use Hitmonchan for example: If there are 2 in the
deck, start looking at both attacks. I think 50/50 chance of getting one and
using it. Jab only needs 1 energy but Super Punch needs2. I combined both
Super Punch energy requirements, and add an extra. This all equals to 5
Fighting Energy. Try that when making a deck....
Here is my deck. You will now see WHY I have the cards I have now...:
2Hitmonchan
2F.Magmar
2P.Mewtwo
2Mr.Mime
2F.Ghastly
2Lickitunge
1Ditto

7Psychic
5Fighting
5Fire

2Bill
2Prof.Oak
2Gambler
1Lass
2Comp.Search
3Item Finder
3Scoop Up
3Gust of Wind
2PlusPower
1Pokemon Center
3ER
2SER
2Energy Retrieval

This deck is to utilize the Pokemons attacks against Popular Pokemon at my
league. Hitmoncha, Scyther, and Electabuzz are all very popular, so I made
good decisions with the Pokemon, and Strategy. The Trainers draw me cards,
and allow me to stall when it's needed. My energy is also based on my
Pokemon. I hope this little article helps all you Pokeholics out!!

I final thought: If you want a pretty good deck that's well constructed
try Haymaker's Potpourri or, look for Israel Quiroz deck in Marche's issue of
Beckett. ( The one with the Venusaur on the cover )
