Mono Decks, by Pokeman Pretty much everyone has tried to play a mono color deck at one point. People just like a certain group of cards too much. I feel like giving some advice to these people, mainly because I have several mono decks and deciphered part of the strategy. Before I start, hoewever, let me say one thing: Choose a group logically, not on personal preferance. Keep a detached viewpoint on all Pokemon. The Energy: The mix is very simple: one color. If you mess up, you shouldn't be playing this game. Usually 23-26 cuts it for most decks, but you might want 25-27 in Fire and some Psychic decks (Gastly's Destiny Bond and Kadabra's Recover). The Creatures: Never, ever, ever, ever go above 30 Pokemon, and the 28-30 line is coming really close. You should have one or two more Energy cards than Pokemon. Obviously you need the Pokemon of your color, but Colorless cards are considered acceptable, as long as you don't choose ones that require too much Energy to use. The Trainers: This is probably the most important part of a mono deck. Choose lots of Trainers that let you heal your Pokemon or rearrange the battlefield, not ones that draw cards or incapcitate enemies. Fire decks might want Energy Retrievals. Lists of Pokemon: Grass: Butterfree family, Beedrill family, Scyther, Pinsir, Exeggutor family, Venomoth family. Fire: Charizard family, Ninetales family, Arcanine family, Magmar. Water: Blastoise family, Seaking family, Staryu (not Starmie). Psychic: Alakazam family (extra Kadabras), Haunter family, Jynx, Mr. Mime (for big, bad boys). Fighting: Machamp family, Hitmonchan. Electric: Electrode family, Raichu family, Magneton family, Zapdos. Colorless: Chansey (with Psychic), Kangaskhan (with Psychic), Pidgeot family, no Porygons. Trainers: Good: Potions, Super Potions, Gusts of Winds, Clefairy Dolls, Pokemon Dolls, Devolution Spray, Gambler. Bad: Bill, Computer Search, Poke Ball, Energy Removal, Sleep! Sleep!, Spread the Sticky Gas. Need additional help or just want argue? E-mail Pokeman at magimaster_23@hotmail.com. thanks for your time, PoJo.
