First off, before my color analysis, I would like to say that there is no single color that is far superior to others. I believe that certain colors contain better pokemon than others, but what type is best is case specific and depends on you own deck strategy. FIRE: I believe that fire is among the best types in the game of pokemon. The pokemon are among the most powerful, first of all. 2nd of all and probably the most important reason is the char family. If you look at it, it has many powerful attacks, as well as secondary attacks that use only colorless energy. Charmeleon’s slash is a good example. For having eighty hit points and a one retreat cost, and being a stage 1 evolution, charmeleon is the best of the char family. Yes, the flamethrower, ember, and fire spin all make you lose energy, but, in my deck, I rarely use these attacks, I just use the slash. The new rapidash is a very nice addition to the fire line, having the best attack of the game for a fairly low energy cost (the attack is agility, 30 damage, 2 fire and one colorless). Fire is weak to water, but with the correct secondary color, that threat can be neutralized. Final note. An all fire deck is easily crushed by a water deck. GRASS: Grass pokemon also have to be one of the best. Grass includes many powerful pokemon, especially with the release of the new Jungle set. Grass is good because it can cause poison, which is the most devastating status change in the game. Grass is a great type because it is good against a variety of things, like gyarados, polywraith, and the new ryhorn. Scyther is the best gain to the leaf type. It is a great addition to any deck because of its no retreat and its resistance. The one bad thing about grass is that a good portion of its pokemon use only grass energy, which can become a big downfall if you are using a split type deck. Grass also tends to have very expensive attacks. Grass has some good basics, though, which have about average HP levels. ELECTRIC: I don’t know who came up with the idea that electric should magically change into lightning, as it is called in the card game now. Electric sounds better and lighting sounds like an attack. Anyway, I don’t know why so many people think that electric is so bad. It is weak to ground, and it can kill itself, but that can be fixed. To fix the weak to ground, there are many pokemon resistant to ground. Most prominent among these is the new scyther, and the spearow-fearow. Both are great pokemon. I direct your attention to raichu’s agility, which is such a great attack. It only costs one electric and two colorless energies. Thunder is expensive, but I only would use it as a last resort. The new jolteon can cause an 80 attack for only 3 energy, which is fairly cheap. With this in mind, electric is fairly cheap, as long as you don’t use zapdos (I don’t), and it is nice and quick. Electabuz isn’t that bad and a good, solid basic. FIGHTING: Fighting is a great type, especially when it comes to attacking quickly. The basic pokemon have cheap, powerful attacks and higher-than-average HP levels. Hitmonchan and Machop are the best starting pokemon in the game, because of their HP and their 20 attacks for only 1 fighting energy. Fighting is super effective against most normal pokemon and electric, and it is weak to psychic, which has some very weak attacks. Fighting has gotten better with the release of Jungle because of the Marowaks and the Primapes. The major downfall that I see with the ground type is that there are a load of good and great pokemon that are resistant to fighting, such as the new Scyther, Fearow, Pigeot, Charizard, and Gyarados. The fighting type is very well rounded and it is fairly easy to get any card that you may want. Fighting will take a big leap with the release of Fossil. WATER: Water. I don’t see what people like so much about this type. Yeah, water has some powerful and high HP final evolutions, but they take a lot of energies to power and the basic pokemon suck, big time (magikarp????). Gyarados is a good pokemon, but he only takes water energy, making him not so good for a split type deck, which tend to do better. Next, blastoise. HE REALLY SUCKS. First of all, his attack takes 5 energies to do a 60 attack (only water too). Looking at rain dance. How many times are you going to use that. I don’t know of anyone who sits with a hand containing 5 or more water energies just waiting to get out blastoise so that he can deploy them all while his other pokemon go unpowered and get hammered. The only logical use would be the first time you get blastoise out, or if you get a prize card and then draw a water next turn. Plus, raichu’s agility becomes a 40 attack against him. The most useful water pokemon is dewgong, and he is uncommon. One more thing, grass gained the most in the Jungle expansion, making water more vulnerable. PSYCHIC: Well, not much to say. First off, psychic is weak. The strongest attack comes from Kadabra, and Kadabra only has 60 HP. Most psychic cards have very low HP levels, which makes them vulnerable attack. Mewtwo sucks. The best psychic card is Mr. Mime, and jynx isn’t too bad. Now, for all of those alakazam lovers out there, he isn’t that good. He only has a 30 attack with a chance of confusion. His pokemon power will only work for a certain time, and once a person is through the alakazam, all the other pokemon are practically dead. With most normal pokemon resistant to this type, and psychics weak attacks, psychic will fall to decks with good numbers of normal pokemon. This concluedes my color anaylisis.
