I am writing this in response to the many tips that include ways to "psyche out" an opponent. After playing many games you should eventually realize that the only person you fool is yourself when you whisper, loudly about your cards, or smile, frown, or whatever. I don't know why people naturally assume the person they are playing is an idiot. The person across the table has played also, and chances are they have read these same "tips" you have read. Any player worth the cards he play is smart enough to realize what you are doing. The best way to play is not to even bother watching your opponent's face. There is two reasons for this: If he is good, then he will know enough to keep his face impassive, and if he is such a beginner that he smiles and sighs constantly then he should be an easy win. If you are worried about you opponent seeing the backs of your cards you have a way to solve this. They sell card sleeves that fit over Magic: the Gathering cards. These have a solid black or red back and will fit pokemon cards as well. If you invest in these they will not only protect your cards but might give your cards an increased lifespan.
