Hmm, the haymaker, a killer deck of june.
Well, it looks interesting, but I am sick of so many decks that fly through
their cards like this. A deck with 4 bills and 4 oaks cut through 36
cards, plus the 7 starting cards, mans 43 cards are used, so there is only 17
turns until the deck burns out. Well, I hate to say it, but all it takes
is cards such as energy removal, dragonair, and high hp's such as gyrados to
keep a deck like this from winning in 17 turns. In fact, this is one of my
considerations in the Energy Wave deck, which contains all of these cards.
Plus, it has no bills or oaks, so it will last 53 turns, as long as a deck can
last without enemys using imposter oaks when your hands higher then 8, or
without using maintanance. The key to stopping such speed decks as this is
simple: evolve your pokemon early, and don't let them build up their
pokemon. Switch their pokemon around, so ones without power are out.
Then, they have to waste energy and time powering them up and retreating
them. Also, energy removal works wonders on a high evolution pokemon about
to rear its ugly head. Other decks, such as the turbo blastoise, also can
be hit this way.
The other thing that can be done to an enemy
deck is a kamikaze pokemon strike to gun down their heavy hitter. Decks
such as turbo blastoise depend on getting a mighty card out very quickly, but
their are ways around it. For instance, magneton can blow itself up for
80, which will come darned close to killing charizard, venusaur, or even
chancy. And it will destroy a blastoise. when you add this to a bit
of damage done from another pokemon or two (sacrificed while powering up
magneton) the enemy pokemon falls.
The other way of dealing with a fast build up
such as this is cards such as farfetch'd, which can deal damage fast and hard,
though they may lack in hps. Against many high pokemon, such as charizard,
it doesn't matter how many hps your pokemon has, because it just kills
them. But, some cards can quickly deal lots of damage, such as
farfetch'd.
Of course, there is always the stall pokemon. In fact,
most every deck should include a pokemon that can prevent some damage, a card
such as kakuna, metapod, raichu, onix, or chansey. In fact, Raichu is
great because its agility can prevent damage, and always deals 20 damage, so its
a great killer. In fact, raichu can also finish off the enemy with a
thunder attack, dealing 60. Oh yes, he's in Energy Wave too. Of
course, its not as if I'm adding shameless plugs for my Energy Wave deck, but
Energy Wave is just so useful.
