Let me explain:

Hitmonchan-70 HP 1 F to do 20 and 2 F and 1 C to do 40 with a 2 retreat cost.He could go in a deck without Bills or Prof. Oaks.

Prof. Oak-Very useful. Has helped me out of tight spots many times.

Bill-Same as Prof. Oak

Electrabuzz-70 HP 1 L to do 10 and paralyzed and 1 L and 1 C to do 30 with a 50% chance of doing 40 or 10 to himself. Also 2 retreat cost. The electric Hitmonchan.

Machop-50 HP 1 F to do 20 and 1 retreat cost. I'd say he's better then Machoke and Machamp.

Super/Regular Energy Removal-Good way to screw over Charizard,Wall, and Venusaur decks.

Scoop Up-Savior card. Has helped me win countless times. Switch also useful.

Beedrill Evolution-I know, 3 cards. But these are the most balanced evolutions, only costing one more energy for each evolution. Also, Beedrill has 0 retreat cost and resistense to fighting.Can also posion.

Doduo-50 HP and for 1 can do up to 20 damage. Resistense to fighting and 0 retreat cost. Rival of even Machop.

Rattata-Some might disagree with this choice. But those people only look at his 30 HP. He can do 20 for 1 C and has 0 retreat cost. Resistense to psy also. Good starting Pokemon too.
