I've seen the following scenario happen way too many times. Some kid will rip open a booster pack and when he sees the holographic card, his face will light up with joy, for a split-second at least. The holographic card he sees is Clefairy. His face will turn to disgust as he notices the 40 HP and none of the moves have damage amounts next to them. Without even bothering to read the card, he trades it off for some other card like a beedrill or pokémon breeder (some rare, but non-holographic card). Wake up people! I, at first, thought Clefairy was an outcast and didn't deserve holographic status like many others believe, but upon a little evaluation, Clefairy rules. Imagine this: You have a mono-water deck with a Clefairy or two in there. Your Blastoise has been dominating for a few turns now and has just knocked out a Ninetales from your opponent's electric/fire deck. Your opponent draws a card that strikes fear into the heart of many mono-water trainers out there- a Zapdos! You use switch to swap your Blastoise and bring out a Clefairy that you've already put 3 energies on during the course of the game. You use metronome and copy Zapdos's Thunderbolt attack. It does 100 damage to Zapdos which knocks him out in one move and you don't even have to discard any energy cards! That's not all because next turn, if you desire, you can remove 1 energy from Clefairy and retreat him at a fairly low cost. I'm not saying Clefairy is the best card ever because 40 HP sure isn't a lot, but he can be vicious against Pokémon with big attacks like Zapdos or Charizard. At least give him a chance before dumping him off for some other card. ~D. Rees (oodevin@aol.com)
