Once again, another deadly Gym combo.  This time with the big, mean, fighting
machine-yes, the giant sea serpent of death-Gyarados!!! (translations from
Edo).

Misty's Gyarados
Type:  Stage 1 Water Pokemon (Evolves from Misty's Magikarp)
LV.42     HP 100
[Pokemon Power]  Defiance
Effect:  Whenever this Pokemon attacks, flip 2 coins.  If
both are tails, that attack does nothing, and shuffle this
cards and all cards attached to it into your deck.  This
Power works even if this Pokemon is Confused.
WWWW:   Hydro Crash:   70
-CCC      Retreat
G         Weakness
F         Resistance (Damage -30)
No. 130 (Rare Hologram)

100 HP?  70 damage for 4 energy (no drawbacks?)?  Resistance to fighting?
This guy has all the chance in the world to be tournament-material, except
for 2 things.  First, Misty's Magikarp is REALLY weak (although Remebrance [a
trainer from Gym] may make this more reasonable).  Second, WHAT THE HECK WERE
THEY THINKING WHEN THEY GAVE IT THIS POKEMON POWER????  Defiance is horrible.
Atrocious.  Just plain bad.  That would be great with a low-energy pokemon
or a stalling pokemon (think chansey or haymaker) but not a big gun like
Gyarados.  Well, there are two ways around this.  Number one is to use Muk.
With a reasonable attack of his own, Muk makes Gyarados's power problems
disappear like Aspirin at the national Psyduck Convention.  I've also seen
someone recommend "Goop Gas Attack" although I think this makes it harder to
attack when you need to, due to no reusability short of NGR or itemfinder.
Also, Gyarados's attack deals 70 damage.  Think about it long and hard.
Which pokemon have 70 HP?  Think.  If you're thinking "Haymaker" you get the
"Duh Factor Award for Amazing Intellect"  yep.  Our big bad Sea Snake can
shred Haymaker into ribbons without the aid of bulky pluspowers and
exhaustive metagaming.  One shot, one kill.  But wait, there's more!  Muk
shuts down AeroMew, Damage Swap, Curse, HayFever, Raindance, and the dreaded
Mr. Mime with that wonderful Toxic gas.  Watch for these once Gym 1 comes out
this summer, since they'll be out there and they'll be hard to stop.
