Hi. Please post this Pojo! I'm Ryoga. Today I'll be comparing the Mewtwo
cards. I'll do the base Mewtwo, Movie Promo, Nintendo Power Promo, and Team
Rocket's Mewtwo. Let's look at the cards.

Base set Mewtwo:
HP:60
Weakness: Psychic
Resistance: None
Retreat: 3
Attacks:
(C)(P) Psychic 10+
Does 10 damage plus 10 more damage for each Energy card
              attached to the defending Pokemon.
(P)(P) Barrier
Discard 1 Psychic Energy card in order to prevent all effects
of attacks,
including damage, done to Mewtwo during opponent's next turn.

It's obvious to anyone this is a staller. Psychic is better in the later half
of the game. Starting off with this guy can be dangerous. Barrier is a great
stalling move. It sucks up psychic energy pretty quick, so you better have
some energy retrieval.
But, this Pokemon only has 60 hp.A psychic weakness too. 3 Retreat cost. All
psychic Pokemon, Except the ghosts, are weak against psychic, so I'll
overlook that for all of the Mewtwos. The 60 HP is a little to low for my
taste, and the 3 retreat cost can really hurt. Energy Removal will be the end
of Mewtwo. If you use barrier, and then your opponent uses energy removal,
you're screwed.

Movie Promo Mewtwo.
As you all know, this card was released through Pokemon: the First Movie when
it was in theaters and on tape/dvd.

HP:70
Weakness: Psychic
Resistance: None
Retreat: 2
Attacks:
(P) Energy Absorption: Choose up to 2 Energy cards from your discard pile and
attach them to Mewtwo.
(P)(P)(C) Psyburn:40

This is the most overuse card in the TCG. Why? Because it's great. It has
less retreat than the base Mewtwo, and 10 more HP. It's easy to keep energy
on this guy. Super Energy Removal and Retreating this guy cost 2 energy,
correct? Just keep 3 (P) on him at all times, and you can regenerate very
easily. But with his psychic weakness, Mewtwos shouldn't fight other Mewtwos.

Nintendo Power Promo Mewtwo
HP: 60
Weakness: Psychic
Resistance: None
Retreat: 2
Attacks: (P) Energy Control: Flip a coin. If heads, choose a basic energy
card attached to one of your opponents Pokemon and attach it to another of
your opponents Pokemon of your choice
(P)(P)(P)Telekinesis: Choose one of your opponents Pokemon. This attack does
30 damage to them. Don't apply weakness and resistance. (any other effects
that would happen after applying weakness and resistance still happen)

This is a very iffy card. It's fairly new, so there the full force of this
guy hasn't been seen yet. Getting multiples of them will be tough. This guy
is a bench killer. Energy Control isn't that good. You could move that
psychic energy onto Poliwag, but does it make that much of a difference?
Early in the game, it does.
Telekinesis costs a lot, 3 (P). This attack would be great with Gengar. Most
basic Pokemon have 30-50 HP. Telekinesis takes away more than half of that.
You don't apply weakness or resistance, so get rid of that Jigglypuff. But
the 60 hp and psy weakness may keep some people away from this guy. It's an
OK card. Don't base a deck around him.

Team Rocket's Mewtwo
HP: 70
Weakness: Psychic
Resistance: None
Retreat: 2
Attacks:(P) Change Damage: Flip a coin.  If heads, exchange all damage
counters
on this Pokemon and the Defending Pokemon.
(P)(P)   Hypnotic Wave: 20 Flip a coin.  If heads, the Defending Pokemon is
now
    Asleep.
(P)(P)(P)(C)  Psyburn:   60

This hasn't been released in America yet. It's from Gym 2. The only card with
3 attacks! I'm sure no one cares...
WOW. This guys' gonna be used more than the Movie Promo. Change Damage can be
very useful. One (P) and you can move that 60 damage onto that annoying
scyther. And if your fighting another psychic Pokemon, you can do up to 120
damage with that attack! But be careful not to move too much damage onto
Mewtwo. Good attack to use on that guy you just gusted out. Heheh.
Hypnotic wave is OK. 2 (P) for 20 and possible asleep. I like Paralysis more
than sleep, but that's me. I guess you'd use this when you had little or no
damage on you or were short on energy.
Psyburn's great. Just like the movie promo's, but for one more (P) you do 20
more damage! It will take a while to power this guy up, but Damage Swap and
Hypnotic Wave will keep your enemy at bay until then. ONLY 2 RETREAT!?
Superb. Still leaves you with enough energy to use either of the first two
attacks.
The psychic weakness is still dangerous though.

In order of 1-4, this is how I rate the Mewtwos.
1) Team Rocket's Mewtwo
2) Movie Promo Mewtwo
3) NP Promo Mewtwo
4) Base Mewtwo

This is just my opinion. Whether you agree or not is up to you. Send all
responses to Ryoga95@aol.com.
Also, I'm looking for translations for any of the vending machine promo
Mewtwos. I have one of them that I believe says CoroCoro Comics on the
bottom. I think there are 2 of them. Are there any Mewtwos I forgot to rate?
Just send them to the above address. Thanks!
