these two basics are one of the best in the game.
Electabuzz- 70Hp, 1 retreat cost, weakness fighting
For 1 L you can do 10 damage and maybe paralyze, not too bad. good staller 
while you're waiting for that last energy.
Thunderpunch is awesome! For 1 L and 1 C you can do 30 damage and maybe even 
40! Just keep a potion for those few times that it lands on tails. I didn't 
really know how good he was until i started playing him in my deck. Maybe 
the best rare out of the basic set??

Hitmonchan- I love this guy. I think of him as a super Machop. He too has 
70HP w/ a weakness to Psy. For one F energy he can do 20 damage (like 
Machop) and for FFC he can do a very nice 40 damage! hehehe! I wont go into 
much more detail because most people know how good he is. Even with the 
arrival of Hitmonlee soon, I still will keep my Hitmonchans.

In addition, Scyther(on paper) is better than Farfetch'd. I myself like 
Farfetch'd but I'd rather have 3 Scythers than 3 Farfetch'ds
