Winsor, re: Alakazam and Mr. Mime I LOVE BOTH THESE CARDS! I didn't understand your strategy or comparison between the two. The only way Alakazam can beat Mr. Mime is if Alakazam confuses Mr. Mime then on the next turn uses Confuse Ray again. And since Mr. Mime has a weakness, it's 60 damage. Not 40. Who would I choose between the two? Mr. Mime. He's a bigger threat against the big boys and he also is ONE card. Alakazam NEEDS to evolve. Mr. Mime can do more damage than Alakazam in one single attack. Let's say, Mr. Mime goes up against Charizard who has 60 points of damage. Mr. Mime attacks with Meditate and Charizard is fried. The same situation with Alakazam? He'd have to wait 2 turns to KO Charizard. You stated: "Alakazam has a 3 retreat cost agaist Mr. Mime's 1, but i don't think that matters much." But it does. A 3 retreat cost vs. 1!!! If Alakazam is out there suffering damage, unless you're swaping it all to your bench, Alakazam's a goner if it doesn't have energy cards. 3 turns later it can retreat (2 if you slap a Dbl Colorless). Mr. Mime, on the other hand, is out of there in a hurry. What's great about Alakazam would be his Power from the bench. That's all I ever use Alakazam for. To swap damage. In dire consequences, I'd use Alakazam as an active Pokemon but unless Alakazam has the upper hand, I'd suffer the retreat costs in order to bring up a better, hard hitting Pokemon and let Alakazam sit on the bench using its power. Going head to head, sure, Alakazam has an advantage given a good coin flip. But up against Blastoise or Charizard... who would you like leading the battle?
