The New Archetype: Why Dark Gengar Can Rule the Game

Hey guys. Aquapolis, without a doubt, is one of the better sets that has been released in a while. Expedition was cool as was Destiny, Revelation and Discovery, but since Genesis, the game was in need of exiting new cards and strategies. Aqua. gave us just that. While not all cards are "Broken" many are good, good enough to warrant playing at the very least in casual play. Examples are the new Chansey (like with Unown N on the bench =D) Ninetails, Azumarill and Marowak. Fun, aren’t they? But some cards, let’s face it, are broken. And "broken" is a term that means different things to different people. To me, it means when I slap down said "Broken" card, my opponent squirms. It makes them uncomfortable. They may even go out of their way to try to eliminate the card. Slowking, Sneasle, Computer Search and such, those are unarguably broken. But some other things have controversy surrounding them. Are those cards really that useful? Some are. Like Dark Gengar.

OK, so you’ve heard about the whole Dark Gengar/Misdreavous thing. And really, that by itself is a very dangerous deck. I know some people who even play Sabrina’s Alakazam and let him do the work as Misdrevous sits on the bench. But no one played this deck. Why? It had such potential. Really, you must have played against a deck like this before, right? I mean sheesh, how did you feel when you saw Dark Gengar hit the bench? Remember that sinking feeling? But now he is just broken. Broken. There, dontknow09, I said it. But why is that? The new Hypno! Man, I read this translation a few months back and nearly had a stroke. How can no one see how good this is? Hypno is only one retreat. And there is switch, double gust, balloon berry, Dodrio etc. So they some how manage to flip a double heads and wake up. Big deal. bring out Hypno, Sleep Pendulum, bring back out Misdreavous, WHAM! KO! How is that not broken, how?

It is so good it is unbelievable. Since it is a KO, it takes out anything, all the Kingdra, Entei/Cargo, Typhlosion, Feraligator, Dark Blastoise (sorry Random), EVERYTHING! It is possible, test it on apprentice (when we get a new patch). The only real problem is Muk. No one is playing him right now though (which shows you how smart everyone is >_<) But Muk can be defeated. Dark Gengar, while used for his power, is a fabulous attacker as well. He can pull out Muk for sixty, Muk is asleep, so his power is shut off, Dark Gengar comes back on, and Muk has to flip twice like everyone else! I’d play him just for that auto kill for benched baby’s attack.

One last thing in closing. Whenever a new set is released, look back on older cards to find new combos. Why if they would reprint Base Blastoise then Blastoise/Poliwrath (expedition) would be a FORCE.
