September 1, 2001 Great Oaks Mall Rochester Hills, Michigan Tim Svenson Ten People in the tourney Pyro- Maniac Hello all people in the world reading this. I just went to a Modified tournament, the first one I have ever been to. My opinion of Modified is this: It is great for the fact that it encourages evolution and a variety of deck types, and bad because one deck will certainly beat some decks, and certainly lose to another. Typhlosion could do nothing against Riptider, Riptider can do nothing against Slowking. Oh, well. There were no Riptiders today, though. J My brother came as well, and he was playing a Dark Vileplume/ Erika’s Victreebel deck. This deck is really cool. I looked around the room, and realized that I had the highest DCI ranking of the people there, fourth in Michigan, 1908 points. Cool. The main problem with participating in the tournament was, losing just one game would almost certainly lower my DCI rating. I don’t care, I play the game for fun. Here’s my deck list. Deck List: Pokemon Cyndaquill 4 Quilava 4 Typhlosion 4 Cleffa 4 Blaine’s Charmander 3 Blaine’s Charmeleon 3 Blaine’s Charizard 2 Trainers Professor Elm 4 Misty’s Wrath 3 Good Manners 2 Blaine 2 Focus Band 3 Double Gust 3 Nightly Garbage Run 3 Cinnabar City Gym 3 Energy Fire 13 Before the tournament, I looked around at the decks there were. There was a Steelix, and this made me happy. Game One- Pyro- Maniac verses NOBODY I got the bye. Yay. 1-0 Game Two- Pyro- Maniac verses a Togetic and MP Mewtwo deck. He mulliganed once, letting me get a better hand. He didn’t start with much of anything, so I Eeeeeeeked many times in order to build up a Charizard, and two Typhlosions. I then basically Raging Flamesed through everything he had. I win. Yay. 2-0 Game Three- Pyro- Maniac verses a Steelix deck Oh, man was I happy that I was playing this deck. I love my luck. He started with an Elekid, and a benched SI Mew. I had a Cleffa and a Blaine’s Charmander. I was able to Eeeeeeek and got up two Cyndaquils. However, he used the Rainbow wave with SI Mew when he had a fire, and did twenty to four of my Pokemon. However, because he had a rainbow energy, I fireworksed him with a Cyndaquill and KOed him. A few turns later, I knocked out Elekid with Blaine’s Charizard for the win. Yay. 3-0 Game Four- Pyro- Maniac verses my Brother’s Dark Vileplume deck. At the beginning of the game, he attached a Dark energy to a careless tackle Erika’s Bellsprout, and attacked my Cleffa with a focus band. He got tails, and I was able to build up a Charizard, which could kill any of his Pokemon with just three energy. I won easily. Yay. 4-0 Game 5- Pyro- Maniac verses a Murkrow, Umbreon, and Dark Jolteon Deck I got up Charizard with a Typhlosion, and began attacking. The attack strategy of the person I was playing was to focous band a Tyrogue, and hope to get lucky. However, because of my Charizard’s resistance, he couldn’t touch me. Therefore, I just had to wait for good flips to KO all of his Pokemon, especially the ones with focus band. I won. Yay. 5-0 Game 6- Pyro- Maniac verses a Fortress deck He forfeited before the game even started, because we had rolled to see who would go first and I won, and I had a Cyndaquill verses his lone Pineco. I win. Yay. 6-0 Well, going un- defeated won me the tournament. This should boost my DCI rating to something like 1925. That would get me third in Michigan. Cool. Now, props and slops. Props: To my brother, for getting third, To my dad, for taking me, To Matt Catalano, (remembered your last name this time) for hosting this great tourney, To Wigglytuff, for being a fluffy pink balloon, and To Blaine’s Charizard, for not being a fluffy pink balloon. Slops: To all of the bad hands my opponents got, To Typhlosion for not being a fluffy pink balloon, And to Riptider, who will ruin my chances of winning at the qualifiers. See ya all later!!
