"Victorious Powers" v2.0 (Grass/Dark) by AndrŽs Rodriguez El Segundo Library El Segundo, CA Saterday, October 6th, 2001 12Êtotal participants ÊÊ I am still on my mission, to get 2000 DCI points. Hopefully WOTC realizes that only 75 people even have 2000+ points, and decide to make it 1950 :-D. ÊÊI have ANOTHER tourney tomorrow with a lot more participants. But unfortunatly it's open format, and not as fun as modified. My deck choice... This is the second time I have played this in a modified tourney. It's a really cool Erikas Victreebell, that has way too much potential. "Victoriuos Powers"? It's corny I know, but hey, "Occult Powers" got me the fame I have now. The first time I played it, I only got third because of a bad draw against a feral deck. It just shows how strong that deck is, to beat this. >_< Well I made out the decklist, and looked to see what everyone was running... NO FERALIGATR!!! Normally thats good, but this time it was bad. EVERYONE was playing anti feral. I figured fire would clean house. Here is what the deck looks like: "Victorious Powers" v2.0 Pokemon 17 4 E. Bellsprout (Careless Tackle) 3 E. Weepinbell (Vine Whip) 3 E. Victreebell 3 Cleffa 2 Murkrow 1 Elekid 1 Smeargle Energy 17 13 Grass 4 Dark Trainers 26 4 Elm 4 Erikas Maids 4 Chaos Gym 3 Mistys Wrath 3 Focus Band 3 Rocket Sneak Attack 2 Rocket Training Gym 2 Double Gust 1 Nightly Garbage Run I dont know if you noticed, it's built similarly to my Feral deck. I feel it is basically the new "haymaker" of format. In other words, its the set up that works best. You can basically use the 4-3-3 line up with any big evolution, and have babies and tech for support. Round 1 vsÊJosh Goldstien (Winner of 11-14 Division of ECSTS 2) I haven't played Josh in quite a while. I know he's playing tyrantar, thats well built. I figure I SHOULD have it easy, running grass. But man o man, I was wrong. He went first, and got a lavitar with recycle energy. All I needed was a double gust, sprout, and dark energy. But no, I didnt get it. I end up elming and eeking. The game drags on. I have a bad hand. He has pupitar set up. He tried to elm, and failed vs. chaos gym. I used it and finally got things I could use. But it seems to be too late. He got out the tyranatar. I eventually KO it thanks to elekid and some feint attacks. He had my murkrow with another pupitar and dark energy. Then I made a HUGE mistake. I attach a GRASS to bellsprout and get the pupitar to 60 hp... I forget he had a dark attached, and I had a dark in my hand. D'OH! >_< He evolved and got the other tyrantar. But I was lucky enough to get 2 darks attached to ANOTHER murkrow. I KO's it, making us tied at 2 prizes a piece. Soon enough time was called, and I got the KO against a cleffa. 1-0 Round 2 vs Chrisbo's Daughter (Sorry I forgot your name >_<) Chrisbo, as you know has helped NUMEROUS sites with Team Compedium. So he knows whats going on. His daughter, had this SICK typhlosion deck. I was afraid to play. We roll, and she goes first. >_< I started with an erikas bellsprout and neo 2 smeargle. She fireworked my sprout, and it was not looking good for me. I used ericas maids to get a few more sprouts. I placed an energy on smeargle and passed. She killed the sprout, and was setting up her bench. I basically did nothing on my turn. By turn 3, she had typhlosion! Luckily for me she failed the fire recharge flip. So I had 1 turn. I got murkrow ready to do some damage. She KO'd a cleffa with typhlosion, and flipped heads on the attack. I used my nice tech smeargle to deal 60 damage. She ko'd it next turn, but also ko'd herself. I then layed down chaos gym and got erikas victreebell pumped. I gusted and killed all the basics. She did draw 5 prizes against me, and is in the 10 and under division. 2-0 Round 3 vs Bulbasnores Wife... Mrs. Cary This was ANOTHER fire deck I had to face. But this game wasnt as close. She pumped her blains charmander while I eeked away. I set up and got 2 victreebells. I locked a ponyta for a while... I basically ko'd everything before it evolved. But that charmeleon almost had me... Gotta love focus band flips :) 3-0 Round 4ÊvsÊAlvin Leu (T8 finisher at ECSTS 2) Alvin was running a new teched out deck. I dont know if I shoudl reveal it... Why not? It was interesting. He was running counters for all the big decks. Sort of a modern potpourii. I started the match by tackling a kogas zubat. He then sputtered. I then gusted and killed the zubat. I had control from there on. Eventually he did build another zubat, that would have ko'd my weepenbell, but he had a zubat in his prizes. 4-0 Round 5 vs. Bulbasnores daughter... Ms. CaryÊ Since there was no single elimination tournament, this was the final game. She started with 2 misty's poliwag. He failed to bubble my cleffa. I then got 2 benched bellsprout, and tossed a dark on one. I ko'd the poilwag. She attacked with the other poliwag, and had nothing to bench. I got the second dark energy, and attached it my other bellsprout. Game over. 5-0 So that was it. I went undefeated and got first place! This deck really is great, and I expect to see more people play it. I guess the triangle really is there. ESPECIALLY if this can occasionally win against big fire decks. I think this deck has the biggest advantage simple because of the FTKO possibilities. You can always get a bellsprout and dark energy turn 1. Props To Alvin for playing something new and fun To Josh for showing up and giving me some DCI points ;) To Bulbasnore, and his family, for running a great tourney. Slops To No one! I won :-p Thanks for Reading!!!
