Painful Poisons by: lizzard27 Pat's Beanies and More Austin, Texas Wednesday, June 13, 2001 10 People This is just a prototype of my deck - I still have to fine-tune it, but, sofar, I have done pretty well. I just played with it in its first tournament, and it went un defeated. This is a fun deck, not a Haymaker (I shun main-stream decks) that is deadly efficient and doesn't allow you to have any fun. The goal of this deck is to get the defending player into a situation where it is costly to retreat, but time is running out! Their Pokemon is poisoned! Painful Poisons ENERGIES 28 Grass Energies TRAINERS 3 The Rocket's Training Gym 3 The Boss's Way 3 Bill 2 Sabrina's Gaze 2 Super Potion BASIC POKEMON 4 Oddish (Team Rocket) 4 Grimer (Fossil) 4 Koffing (Team Rocket) STAGE 1 POKEMON 2 Gloom 2 Dark Muk 2 Dark Weezing STAGE 2 POKEMON 1 Vileplume Although I have still not changed anything in this deck, I figured out that I will Probably change out the Oddish-Gloom-Vileplume series with the Nidoran(M)-Nidorino-Nidoking series. Nidoking's "Toxic Attack" would REALLY increase the opponents need to retreat their active Pokemon. ROUND 1 VS. JACOB (WATER/ELECTRIC) As I sat down to play this opponent, I thought that this would be an interesting round. I was right. My opening hand was almost perfect - 2 Grass Energy, 1 The Rocket's Training Gym, 1 Bill, 1 Oddish, 1 Grimer, and 1 Dark Muk. I almost immediately beat my opponent because he had only 1 Pokemon out - a 40 H.P. water Pokemon. He did not draw a basic Pokemon in time. In the second game, my opening hand was O.K., but not wonderful (I got only 2 cards in my combo- Dark Muk and The Rocket's Training Gym), but I still won. ROUND 2 VS. DENTON (ELECTRIC/PSYCHIC) For the first game of this round, I pretty much won the way that I won the first game of the first round (Except for the fact that the Pokemon he had out was a Pikachu). For the second game of this round, I lost, but not without a valiant fight. It was a very close game, with me losing with only one prize left. One of this decks biggest weaknesses of this deck became apparent- almost all of my Pokemon have a Psychic weakness. The third game of the round was one of the closest games I have ever played. I won by one prize. In the beginning, James was kicking my rear (with his Mewtwo), but I made a late-game comeback with my Vileplume. ROUND 3 VS. COLIN (PSYCHIC/GRASS) For the first game, I won only because my opponent was drawing grass Pokemon, instead of Psychic. The second game was a disaster, with him drawing all psychic Pokemon instead of grass. The third game of this round ended up alot like the first game, except that in the beginning he had a Mew. I was able to poison that to death. Lucky me! I got first in the tournament and won two packs. I doubt that this deck will be as successful next tournament, because people would be out to get my type of deck. PROPS AND SLOPS Props to . . . PAT- helped me get all of the cards together for my deck Slops to . . . YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE- Those cocky jerks who think that they have the match won, then they get beaten, and blame their loss on card drawing or bad luck.
