17 Participants for Pokemon League

This is my first deck report which I got suggested to
do by fellow player and message boarder TheRealTimbit.
I' like to also thank Slashtap for tips and the idea
of the Slashtap-style deck, and DeathGod of Thunder
for tweaks and for playing me in the final.  I had
been playing for the longest time stall decks which
featured my fav Pokemon, the Ghost family of Gastly,
Haunter and Gengar(Fossil or Sabrina's).  So the
change from a paced game using Psychics to a speed
deck using Dark and Grass was a 180 for me.  But I'm
enjoying it!  I had also just joined the League there
of recent for a change of venue.  The players are fun
and the environment has given me a renewed love to
play the game again.

Roundabout Deck V.1.0
3 Sneasel
2 Murkrow
2 Yanma
2 Gligar
2 Cleffa
2 Igglybuff
4 Professor Oak
4 Computer Search
4 Itemfinder
1 Nightly Garbage Run
2 Energy Charge
1 Rocket Training Gym
2 Ecogym
2 Gold Berry
1 Scoop Up
3 Lass
2 Rocket Sneak Attack
3 Super Energy Removal
3 Double Gust
3 Grass Energy
4 Rainbow Energy
4 Dark Energy
2 Double Colourless Energy
2 Recycle Energy

I had Scythers originally but opted them out for the
Igglybuffs for special cases.  The main goal of the
deck is to hit and run with Gligar or Yanma for early
damage, or lock them in with Murkrow and the Rocket
Training Gym while pecking the bench away.  Sneasel
came in to clean house.  I had to have a fast deck
since this league palyed only 3 prizes to win.  I'll
give my best recollections of the battles, with focus
on a few near the end.  Oh, and of note this was a
particualr day where I brought out a mini-mold model
of Gengar.  For good luck and the kids were trying to
have him breakdance...

Round 1 vs Scyther Deck
All he got out was the Neo Discovery Scyther and I had
Igglybuff and Sneasel.  I sent Igglybuff to set up.
he killed the Iggly with many heads but I came back to
beat up with a near full bench with Sneasel.
1-0

Round 2 vs Ghost Psychic deck
Ah, memories.  I luckily know the weaknesses very
intimitely.  I first missed a Yanma attack for
shockwave.  Then I locked in a Sabrina's Gastly with
Murkrow.  He missed a paralyse flip and I hit for
40HP, knock out via 2 darks on Murkrow.
2-0

Round 3 vs Misty/Giovanni Water Deck
Giovanni?  Horsea?  I locked a Horsea and went away
plugging at Magikarps on the bench.  After two, I got
the Horsea with Sneasel after healing up with a Gold
Berry my Murkrow.  I got all three prizes for a win
and a break.  I suggested some other tweaks after the
game, and had a bye where I played the store owner and
league Gym Leader Joe for fun.  He beat me with a
mirror image of my own deck.  At least it seemed like
I got the loss out of my system.
3-0

Round 4 vs Umbreon/Sneasel/Horsea deck
Another Misty's Horsea?  I have no clue why.  This one
was of all oddities but it was a young player.  He had
put a dark energy on Eevee but never got the
evolution.  One free prize.  I double gusted out the
Sneasel and got rid of the threat with my own Sneasel
via a Fury swipes showdown.  Killed a Scyther to
finish this.
4-0

Round 5 vs Togetic/Electric/Water Deck
I played the only girl in the game.  And I had a heart
attack of a game.  Togepi started off.  No problem,
right?  Wrong.  I couldn't find energy and had to
leave Cleffa out while Eeking and Sneak Attacking
until I could get more energy.  She got the
mini-metronome to eek as well and found her Togetic!
Then on two heads, Fly killed Cleffa!  Down 3-2 with
time winding down.  I had to act fast.  With help of
the Rocket Gym to my advantage, I kept gusting out
Articuno twice to make her retreat at a cost.  Got
Sneasel powered up and thinking I can do this.  I
killed the Articuno, and back came the Togetic.  Then
trouble showed its head again.  She got heads and she
had a full bench!!!  She beat me up but for only 40HP.
I drew a Gold berry next turn and beat away.  I only
hit for 40HP!!  She came back with another Beat up
with me lacking energy.  I had luck on my side again
as she could only get 40HP.  I killed the tough
Togetic off and then proceeded to finish the game by
killing of all things another Giovanni's Magikarp.
Kudos for her toughness and good flipping!
5-0

Round 6 vs Horsea/Ghost (Psychic/Water) deck
Well, got a break after that scare.  Locked a Horsea
with Murkrow, killed the Gastly then the Horsea.  A
good break before the big matches.
6-0

Round 7 vs Chris' Psychic/Dark sponge deck
Now things went up a notch.  He's a new friend of mine
and good player.  This was a classic marathon I used
to playing.  He started off well with Sneak Attacks
and Rocket Traps.  But he couldn't attack as I
retaliated with a double gust and locking a Ditto into
place with Murkrow.  Got damage on it then switched
for a baby for one kill.  Then it was back and forth
of me attacking with Sneasel and him scooping up
Chansey, while I Super removed him three times.  He
couldn't find energy but I was only hitting for
60-80HP.  He finally ran out of Scoop ups and I killed
the Chansey.  I Sneak Attacked to keep from any other
Pokemon from getting set and killed a Scyther for the
win.  A half hour match!
7-0

Round 8 Vs Gareth's Energy Swap/No evolution
deck(Grass)
Interesting deck.  He got out Venusaur and Exeggcutor
quickly!  I had one chance: good ol' Murkrow.  he had
babies so I locked a Cleffa.  The heads finally rolled
my way and I killed off an Igglybuff.  Then mine came
into play as I locked in an Aerodactyl while stopping
any Energy swapping with my Igglybuff!  I killed the
previously mentioned Cleffa and then finished off the
Aerodactyl for the win.  If I had not won, Gareth,
Chris and I had to do a three way dance to get to the
finals!  Despite my love for wrestling as well, it's
two to tango and three's a crowd.
8-0

Final Round vs Matt's Electric Insanity Deck
Death God of Thunder, I finally got that good match
with you.  Last time I had only Yanma and he squished
it with a Steelix.  Meanie.  Now this was a match.  He
had a Brock's Onix and 2 Rocket Zapdos out with Gold
berries on the birds.  Again my only chance was to
lock down the Onix.  Gligar started with Poison stings
that failed.  I got Trapped and Sneak Attacked but I
came back with Super Removals and Sneaks of my own.  I
got a computer search back to finally get the Onix but
he got a switch, 3 electric to retreat prior when he
started, and a scoop up. I never saw any other bench
and got beat eventually with the birds killing
Murkrow, Yanma and Gligar. I had a chance if Sneasel
had hit a perfect Fury swipes, but missed 2 flips.
Still a great match and tourney day.  I was exhausted.
And so am I writing this.  Thanks for reading folks!
Chow for now!
Final record 8-1
