                                                                          Spellenspektakel 9
                                                                   Eindhoven, THE NETHERLANDS
                                                                    Sunday 5th November 2000
Category 10 years and younger, roughly 8 participants. (My 1st ever competition)

This was not a big tournament, but had a big prize. A trip to the ECSTS. I played in the Spellenspektakel (a big game convention) with roughly this deck:
(Note: only movie promo's and base to rocket were allowed)
1x Kangaskhan
1x Zapdos (Base)
1x Zapdos (Fossil)
4x Scyther
2x Ditto
1x Mewtwo (Base)
1x Mewtwo Promo
1x Electabuzz (Base)
1x Electabuzz Promo
2x Jynx
1x Snorlax
1x Mr. Mime
2x Magnemite
1x Rattata (TR)
Trainers:
2x Energy Removal
4x Gust Of Wind
4x Switch
2x Super Energy Removal
1x Here Comes Team Rocket!
Energy:
4x Double Colorless
15x Lightning
8x Psychic

They used a swiss system to calculate the winners.
Round 1 v ??? (???deck)
Note: I did not note how the games went exactly or who I played.
I won and was the first player finished.

I practice against Tiago whom I play against next.

Round 2 v Tiago (???deck)
Again I do not know how, but I won.

Round 3 v ??? (Grass deck with many low HP Pokémon)
Note: It is now best out of 3.
Used my Scythers to Slash his Caterpies, Metapods and Butterfrees into oblivion.
I win again.

Round 4 v Tiago (again) (Haymaker)
Note: Tiago changed his deck.
Game 1: He has a Machop. I have an Electabuzz. I go first and Thundershock (paralyzed).
He attaches a Fight energy. I Thunderpunch (heads) Machop was his only Pokemon. I win.
Game 2: He beats me by about 3 prizes and I lose.
Game 3: He needs 3 prizes and has Oaked 3 times (small deck). I have (nearly) no chance of winning, but he keeps on being Paralyzed. He OAKS!!!! (worst thing to do at this stage) And is left with 2 cards. I knew I could stall him for long enough for him to run out of cards. IT WORKS!!!!! I win again.

Final Round v ???(next category) (Very annoying Chansey/Alakazam/Mr. Mime Stall Deck)
Note: Because there were not enough people in my age group everyone had to play an 11-year old once.
Game 1: I was getting the right energys, but he won.
Game 2: I win. Game 3 goes on for to long and the guy (Rutger Veen, he works at 999 games, the organizers of the event) said in 5 mins. the one with the most prizes wins. I lose :-(.

The results: 3rd: Tiago (I know I'm better than him, so will i get 1st or 2nd prize)
2nd: ??? (not me)
1st and the big winner of the invitation to the ECSTS and an all expenses paid trip to Secaucus, NJ: ME!!!!!, JAMES LOMAS!!!!

I'm happy!

Not long ago I went with the other winners to the USA (There were 2 of these events):
10-: Ardjuna Veenstra and James Lomas(me)
11-14: Sheng Zheng and Bas Melis
15+: Ruben Wensink and Peter Keller (came 3rd! in the STS)
