Intro:

Hey Pojo, this is my first deck report I have written so please bear with me. Anyway, my name is Matt Brooks and I made the top 8 in the Super Trainer Showdown in the 15+ category. I am just 15 also so I had to play in it. I was used to playing adults at my weekly tourney place, The Castle in Maryland so it was no big deal! I thought the tournament was very well handled and went very smoothly (except for the wait in between rounds). The only complaint I have is the *cough* *cough* food! They were always sold out of hot dogs. Anyway here is the deck I used entitled the "Wiggly Beat Stick" cuz that's just what it did.

Deck:

Pokémon (21)
3 Electabuzz (Backbone)
3 Ditto (Good against those @#$%! TR Zapdos)
3 Scyther (FREE RETREAT!)
3 Magmar (Fossil) (Good Staller and Attacker)
3 Chansey (My Fav. Poke) Note: I had 2 Chansey keychains at my side for luck!
3 Jigglypuff (Good staller and Mr. Mime killer!)
3 Wigglytuff (Nuff said!)

Trainers (15)
3 Professor Oak (Need some card drawing)
2 Rocket's Sneak Attack (Deadly in Prop 15)
2 Computer Search (Get what you want, when you want!)
2 Gust of Wind (Gust-of-WIN!)
2 Scoop Up (Get that energy less Buzz outta trouble)
3 Item Finder (Get back Oaks)
1 Nightly Garbage Run (Get Wiggly's lost from Oak)

Energy (24)
7 Lightning Energy (Buzz....)
9 Fire Energy (Magmar...)
3 Double Colorless Energy (Chansey, Ditto, Scyther, Wiggly....)
3 Full Heal Energy (Saves ya in times of need)
2 Potion Energy (Keeps away from that KO)

The Night Before:

We arrived in Jersey around 3, after 15 hours wandering the streets.......hehe! Jersey is so complicated to a tourist. Anyway we stayed in the Renaissance Hotel. VERY NICE HOTEL! Anyway around 6 we went and pre-registered from my Gold Invitation I already had. That was very quick then we went back to the hotel and went to sleep.

Tourney:

I woke up the morning of the STS with butterflies in my stomach. So we went to the expo center and got ready. As you enter you get a wristband on your wrist for your corresponding age group (mine was red). For the first part I met up with the people from Maryland that went with me and we played for about an hour. I had to trade for a Wiggly before the tourney started. So they started by posting your matches and your table number. As you got more wins your table number got lower (e.g.. I went from table 94 to table 25 b/c I won). Anyway you got 3 points if you won, 2 if you won by the most prizes at the end of the round, 1 point for a draw, and 0 for a loss. You were also ranked on how high your resistance was, like if someone had the same amount of points as you, the one with the higher resistance got ranked higher. Resistance is the total points of all your opponents out together.....mine was like 110 or something......high enough to get me into slot number 8. Each round was 25 minutes. There were 8 rounds. Enough talking here were the matches.

Matches:

Match 1 vs. Bill Gill (Creator of Pojo)

Honestly going into this match I was nervous, for God's sake this man created Pojo. I was relieved when I saw a speed Raichu deck (no offense Bill). Well this is pretty much how it went. I got RSA (Rocket Sneak Attack) first turn due to him not having basic so drawing 2 extras, I got it. I RSA'ed his Oak first turn. Then Oaked myself. Got Wiggly turn two. He was debating whether to play Chaos Gym but didn't. For the final word, I got out my "Beat Stick" Wiggly turn two and made mince meat of his Clefairy's and Pikachu's. Good game Bill.

Record: 1-0-0    Points: 3

Match 2 vs. ???

He was playing a classic haymaker. I once again got Wiggly with good card drawing power. Quick match. One thing I remember was this guy had Misty's Wrath coming from everywhere. Anyway I won this easily.

Record: 2-0-0    Points: 6

Match 3 vs. Magic Guy

This guy was very tough. It was a back and forth battle. I had nothing on turn number 1 and had to stall until I got CS or Oak. He was playing TR Zapdos and haymaker style deck. I managed to battle back. I had one prize left and he had 2. I had a Chansey that just double egded do he promoted Buzz. If tails it was game cuz I would just double edge with 110 damage on me. But to no prevail it was heads so the time was called and it ended in a draw.

Record: 2-1-0    Points: 7

Match 4 vs. ???

Don't remember but do remember it was a haymaker once again. Well I didn't get out Wiggly this game but I used Ditto against his TR Zapdos to sail to smooth win.

Record: 3-1-0    Points: 10

Match 5 vs. Heidi Craig (Finalist)

Well this game was sort of close but to no prevail she beat me. Oh well can't go undefeated. Good game Heidi. You can check out her deck here: http://www.wizards.com/pokemon/main.asp?x=NJ00/15plusdecklists

Record: 3-1-1    Points: 10

Note: I had to win all the rest for a shot at the finals.

Match 6 vs. ??? w/ Leaf Deck

This was a quick match. In his opening hand he had all three Oaks (OUCH!) and had to toast them all. Can you guess what happened?

Record: 4-1-1    Points: 13

Match 7 vs. ??? w/ Haymaker

Once again don't remember but I do remember I RSA'ed a couple times to screw him up. Then I used Wiggly to take out his Pokemon before he could get an offense going. One more to go.

Record: 5-1-1    Points: 16

Match 8 vs. Adult w/ good deck

This guy was very good. We exchanged prizes back and forth. I had some Wiggly's and he killed them. At the end the prize count was 2-1 with me in the lead. I had 3 cards in my hand, Nightly Garbage Run, Fire Energy, and ITEM FINDER. I had Wiggly as my active. I Item Finder'ed for a Gust-Of-WIN and gusted his Buzz out and won.

Record: 6-1-1    Points: 19

After Tourney:

I was still extremely nervous b/c I didn't know if I got in or not. Then they announced that I was number 8 out of 8. YEA! I got in to the finals. They gave you 4 packs for finishing and another 4 for finishing in top 32. They were packs from Jungle, Base Set 2, Challenge and Heroes. I checked with my friends and they didn't get into finals. Now its time for me to go to finals.

Finals:

Game 1 vs. Tom Hanley (Champion)

Well I can't say I got obliterated. I started with Chansey and Ditto in my opening hand. I knew I was done form the get go. I finally got a Search. I kept using Ditto and Chansey to stall. But at the end it was his Chans, Chansey, and TR Zapdos that got me. I congratulate him on his undefeated day.
