Balloon Concert Tim Svenson, author Great Oaks Mall Rochester Hills, Michigan July 28, 2001 About 20 people Hello Pojo and all who happen to be reading this report. I just got back from a DCI tournament which was attended by six of the twenty best players in Michigan. I am the worst of those six…… oh well. I have fun. My deck that I used today is called the Balloon Concert. This is because it is composed (get it?) largely of singing balloon Pokemon. That’s right, you guessed it, Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, and Wigglytuff. Well, have fun reading. Here’s my deck. Pokemon (15) Igglybuff (2) Anti slowking, dark plume, and foretress. Also, evolves into Jigglypuff if your bench is already full and you need another Wiggly Jigglypuff(4) Evolve to Wiggly Wigglytuff(3) Wouldn’t be a wiggly deck without it Scyther (1) Takes out neo Onix in one hit, and has free retreat and 70 HP Gligar (1) Anti- Clefable Cleffa (2) Obviously… Rocket’s Zapdos (2) plasma with plus power equals one turn knock out, electroburn equals game ender. Trainers (33) Professor Oak (4) Speedy card Computer Search (4) another speedy card Itemfinder (4) Recover trainers Plus Power (4) Help Wiggly KO 70 HP basics and Clefable Gust of Wind (3) take out a threat before it can attack Super energy Removal (2) anti Steelix and Sneasel (but mostly Steelix) Switch (2) Anti status effects, and if they gust something you don’t want out, then just switch it back Lass (2) great with Cleffa, and puts cards back in your deck Nightly garbage run (2) Anti- decking, get back Wigglys Gold Berry (3) Heal Wigglys and Rocket’s Zapdoses No Removal Gym (2) protect Wiggly from Removal Rocket’s Minefield Gym (1) discard their eco gym or no removal gym so I can removal them Energy (12) Double colorless (4) power Wiggly, Scyther, and Gligar Recycle (2) Back to hand Electric (6) power Rocket’s Zapdos My brother and Cousin came to this tournament as well. My cousin plays a Rain Dance, so we brought along a stuffed Blastoise for good luck. My brother plays Clefable and Mewtwo. When I got to the tourney, I looked around at what decks people were using, and saw many Sneasels. I figured that would happen. On to round one. Round One- Me Vs. Matt Toeneskoeter (sorry, I know the spelling is wrong) Matt is ranked number one in Michigan, so I was a little nervous. I started with an Igglybuff active, and an Igglybuff benched. He started with an Igglybuff active. (3 Igglys. Cool.) I went first, drew Jigglypuff. I benched it and oaked. I attached double colorless, sent Jiggly active, and played a plus power. I tried to attack, tails. Darn. He then drew. He showed me his hand. 3 itemfinders, 1 NGR, and 3 water energy. Ouch. He passed, and I drew. I evolved to Wiggly, attached a recycle energy, and oaked. I put Scyther and Gligar on the bench. Tried to attack, heads. I win. Yay. Round two- me vs. Chris Gurte (spelling wrong, again) Chris is ranked 7 in Michigan, so again, I was nervous. He was playing a Steelix deck, with neo Onix. I did not know what this was for. The game started slow, but Then I got up Wigglys and he got up Steelixes. When we were tied in prizes, three to three, time ran out. I finished my turn, and put up a scyther. I had in my hand a Wiggly, double colorless, and gust of wind. On my bench was a jiggly with a recycle. On his bench was a Rocket’s Hitmonchan. I sent up scyther because I did not think it could be killed in one hit. However, he recalled, and raged with neo onix, and because he had sixty on him, my scyther was knocked out, and I lost. Darn. Round three- Me vs. Brad Svenson (spelling is right, he’s my brother) I started with an Igglybuff, three double colorless in my hand, a Lass, and an Oak. I couldn’t loose the three double colorless, so I lassed, and attached to Igglybuff. Then, I drew Scyther, His Pichu was out, and it hit my Iggly. I attached to Scyther, and passed. He tried to attack Iggly again with Pichu, but it was tails. I sent up my scyther, and killed the Pichu. Then, he sent up MP Mewtwo, and absorbed the Pichu’s energy. I slashed, and had a plus power in my hand, and I was going to win the next turn. Or so I thought. He drew Oak, attached a plus power and an energy, and used the oak. He got three plus powers and killed my scyther. On his next turn, he killed my Iggly. I lost. Darn. Round four- Me vs. Claire Toeneskoeter This was Matt’s Sister, and she is very good as well. She had a Slowking and Sneasel deck. I got off to a good start, and got a wiggly up. I killed two Sneasels with it before being knocked out. Then, I sent up a Rocket’s Zapdos and did plasma. She killed the Zapdos. Then, I drew a wiggly. I evolved a Jiggly, and with three on the bench I was able to kill the Sneasel. She had a Slowking up by now, so I had to flip for my trainers. I drew a search, she got tails when I used it. I got an Oak, and she got tails again. I filled my bench and killed another Sneasel. Then, she did garbage run, and got back three Sneasels. She sent up Cleffa and Eeeeeeeked. I flipped tails on attacking. She put a Sneasel on the bench and Eeeeeeeked. I couldn’t attack again. Then, she Eeeeeeeked again, getting up 3 more Slowkings. I finally killed Cleffa on this turn. One prize to go. She sent up Slowking, because Sneasel would be killed in one hit. I did 60. She switched for another Slowking, and I did 60. She switched again, and I did 60 again. This time, she did not have another switch, so I knocked out the Slowking. I win. Yay. Round five- Me vs. Matt Zettel He had a Steelix and Giovanni’s Machamp deck. I got up a Wiggly quick, but he got up a Steelix quick as well. He put two metal on it. I super removaled and did 60. He attached a metal to a benched Onix and passed. I then knocked out the Steelix. He then attached another metal to the Onix, sent it out, and evolved to Steelix and used tackle. I super removaled it, and did 60. He passed, and I killed the Steelix. Then, I went through some Giovanni’s Machops and Blaine’s Mankeys to take all of my prizes. I win. Yay. Round six- Me vs. John Immers Last week, he beat me with this exact same deck, and this week, I wanted revenge. He was playing a Kabutops (Hydrocutter) and Slowking deck. I got up Wiggly with gold berry, and he just could not get enough energy on Kabutops. He got up a Slowking, but I had an Igglybuff to shut it down. I killed a Kabutops with Wiggly, but the next Kabutops killed my wiggly. I killed this Kabutops with Scyther, and my Scyther went through the rest of his Pokemon. I win. Yay. 4-2. Not bad at all. Now, for props and slops. Props: To my brother, for also going 4-2, and getting third. To My cousin for going 3-3 To My dad, for taking me To Pojo, for posting this (hopefully) To Matt (sorry for forgetting your last name) for holding this tournament every week. Slops: To Matt Toeneskoeter, who dropped out after I played him so his DCI ranking Would stay the same. This wrecked my resistance.
