Deck: Energy Denial Name: Jeff Reynolds Location: Toys R Us Raleigh, NC Date: August 17, 2001 Attended: 31 I created this deck in response to all the energy removal decks I have played against. I figured if you can't beat them...join them !!! Before the Team Rocket series came out I used to use a similar type of deck effectively. The main purpose of this deck is to deny your opponent an opportunity of attacking while having Pokemon that can attack quick without the high energy costs. Pokemon ------- 1 Unown M 1 Unown N 2 Rocket Zapdos 2 Electabuzz 2 Cleffa 2 Brock's Sandshrew 2 Brock's Sandslash 2 Ditto 2 Elekid 2 Magby Total - 18 Trainers -------- 2 Switch 2 Gust of Wind 2 Professor Oak 3 Professor Elm 3 Gold Berry 3 Item Finder 3 Nightly Garbage Run 3 Sprout Tower 3 Energy Removal 3 Super Energy Removal Total - 27 Energy ------ 4 Recycle 5 Electric 6 Fighting Round 1 vs Dave Messinger (Fighting/Colorless) This was deja-vu all over since we faced each other in the first round on Saturday at the ECSTS. Once again similar results. It took me several turns before I could get a Elm or Oak. Dave brings up Clefable and gusts my Zapdos...KO. After that I am trying to play catch up the rest of the game. Time is called and he wins on prizes. 0-1 Round 2 vs Dave Christian (Fire Deck) Dave gets Magmar and I get Brock's Sandshrew, Sandslash, and Electabuzz. Using Sandslash (Needle Ball) and Electabuzz I am able to KO his Magmar's and Mr Mime for the win. 1-1 Round 3 vs Stephan Henrion (Sneasel/Scyther) This was a tough game but I was able to control it using energy removal against Sneasel (Dark) and Scyther (Double Colorless). I used Ditto to KO Sneasel and Electabuzz and Rocket Zapdos for the other Pokemon. 2-1 Round 4 vs Bryan Friedlander (Sneasel/Chansey/Metal) Another really tough game that went down to the wire. First turn he gets Sneasel with Dark energy and I get Cleffa. He does Fury Swipes and KO's Cleffa. Next two turns I power up Ditto and energy removal his Sneasel. I finally KO his Sneasel. I get out Sprout Tower and Unown N to use against his Chansey with Metal Energy. Sprout Tower, Unown N, and Energy Removals are the only thing that saved me because the Sprout Tower and Unown N combine to reduce damage from Chansey to only 20. The rest of the game is spent trying to get around his Chansey to KO the other Pokemon. Right before time expires he does Double Edge which KO's his Chansey and he moves up Sneasel. Time expires on my turn and I move up fully powered Ditto and do Beat Up. I roll 3 heads out of 6 and KO his Sneasel for the game. Whew !!! That was really a close one !!! 3-1 Round 5 vs Bryson Bonham (Steelix/Slowking/R.Zapdos) Once again a tough match. I use energy removal and Unown M to reduce his attack. This game goes back and forth between Steelix and Rocket Zapdos for him and Ditto, Rocket Zapdos, and Magby for me. Right before time expires he forfeits because I am ahead on prizes by 2 so I can have a full win instead of time. This was a real class act by a very good player !!! 4-1 Props ----- To everybody who showed up to make this our largest turnout to date !!! To Jim Trenner for judging the largest tournament yet. To Bryson for a great game and a perfect example of how to be a good sportsman !!! Slops ----- I don't believe in giving any regardless of situations.
