Perfectly Mastered Pokemon

Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada. Pendragon on April 30, 2000.
About 17 Participants at the DCI Santioned Tournament.

Hi again, I'm Nikachu with my Perfectly Mastered Pokemon deck. I went to my first Pokemon TCG tournament at the Pendragon on April 30, I was so excited. This was going to go a step further in being the best Pokemon TCG player in the world. There were a few people there at the tournament that remembered me from the league and they even said that they hope that they wouldn't have to face me. But with the old faces I saw new ones. And I looked at their decks... EEK! These decks were really good. They were exactly like something you would find on apprentice, like mine. I saw Stall, Haymaker, and my arch nemisis Raindance. My rule with raindance is: if the opponent has a squirtle out on his first turn, I've lost. If he deosn't, he has lost. This rule usually works, always had. Then I saw this guy with a Psychic deck. If I can remember, his name was Andy. He was 14 along with me. He had 4 Mr.Mimes, 4 Dittos, 3 Movie Mewtwo, 1 Base Mewtwo, a few Clefairy and Clefable, and Dratini, Dragonair and Dragonite (strangley 1 of each). Other than that, his deck seemed as if it had a chance to beat me. We both talked for a while and agreed that 1 of us were going to win the tournament. I said "I'll see you in the finals." Then he challenged me to a battle...

Nikachu vs Andy
Well, i started with a Ditto. I had a pretty good hand for a Ditto, Double Colorless Energy. He flipped over his Movie Mewtwo. I always called heads and he won the toss with tails. He put down Psychic Energy and passed. I pick up and place some Lightning Energy and pass. Andy places another Psychic Energy. Then on my turn, iI placed the Double Colorless Energy and Psyburn for the win.

It was a fun practice game but that match made him want to avoid playing me in the tournament. Thats a shame. Andy's brother (whom was 15 years old) was amazed that I beat his brother. He favored me now and not Andy. Thats too bad. Then the Judge came over and gave me a piece of paper to mark down what I have in my deck, I filled it out and gave him this:

Pokemon                    Trainers                                   Energy

2 Aerodactyl                3 Computer Search                  9 Lightning Energy
3 Ditto                         4 Energy Removal                    8 Fighting Energy
4 Electabuzz                2 Gust of Wind                        4 Double Colorless Energy
3 Hitmonchan               3 Mysterious Fossil
                                   3 Plus Power
                                   3 Professor Oak
                                   3 Scoop Up
                                   4 Super Energy Removal
                                   2 Switch

If you would like to know the strategy to this deck or want to know how I use it, go to the April Killer Deck Reports and find this deck.

This is how the tournament went. Everyone was going to face a random opponent 4 times. So I would have to play 4 games. The games were 2 out of 3. YESSS! No one has ever beaten me twice in a row. Its almost impossible or something. I felt more confident that I would win this tournament. If you won enough matches, you would go into a Playoff section of the tournament where you play the best of the tournament to decide out 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The matches began and I had my sacret Lord Nikachu with me to help me in the tournament. I was facing this small kid with a Charizard deck.

Nikachu vs Small Kid with Garbage Deck (Charizard is just the worst Pokemon)
Match 1    I start with a hand of Electabuzz, 4 Lighning Energy, and 2 Energy Removals. I didn't have much variety in my hand but I did have Electabuzz (The BEST pokemon card in the game). I place my Electabuzz and the kid placed down one Pokemon. I called heads... HEADS. He had a TR Charmander, oo its toast. I placed Ligtning Energy on Electabuzz and Thundershocked... tails. He went and placed some Fire Energy on Charmander and attacked for 20. I go and place Energy to Thunderpunch for the win. YEY!
Match 2    I now drew an Electabuzz, 2 Ditto, Energy removal, Switch, 1 Lighning Energy, and 1 Fighting Energy. I put my Electabuzz up as active as the Ditto stand by at back. The kid placed down 1 basic again. I called heads... heads again. He flipped over a Base Set Charmander as I showed him my army. I placed my Lighning Energy and Thundershocked him for 10. Heads. He put a Fire energy on the Paralyzed Charmander. I picked up another Lighning Energy and placed it on Electabuzz. I then Energy Removed his Charmander's only Energy. Thunderpunch... tails. It was almost dead. He went and placed yet another energy on the thing. But then he evolved it into Base Charmeleon. He passed. I picked up a Professor Oak. I placed the Fighting energy on Ditto then Oaked. I picked up a lot of junk but got a Plus Power. I used it on Electabuzz and Thunder Punched for the win.
1-0

The Judge marked this card I had that showed I won the 2 out of 3. Then Andy's brother told him about the win. He was really amazed. Because all in all, those 2 matches took only 5 minutes. FAST! The Judge was now handing out Lollypops to all the players. Pokemon Lollypops. It had a Gum center and a sticker in the wrapper. I got some ugly Machoke. I was getting really nervous. I've always wanted to appear out of nowhere in a tournament and win it. Most people knew each other from previous tournaments but I was new to most. Some already though I was the tournament winner, they knew me from the Pokeomn League where I'm still undefeated with an 83 battle winning streak. All the winners of their battles were gong to face each other in this winning side, the losers placed on this losing side. So the next person I was going to face had already won their previous battle. The Judge started to give us our random opponents. I face this BIG kid (I'm trying not to be rude) with a Lightning deck.

Nikachu vs Lightning Deck Kid
Match 1    Well I pulled out this bad hand. 1 Electabuzz, Mysterious Fossil, 3 Fighting Energy, 2 Plus Powers. Grrr, well I called Heads.. tails. Now it was really bad. He had 2 Electabuzz out while I had only 1. He placed a Lightning Energy and Thundershocked... heads. Nothing is going my way in this one. I pick up a Lightning Energy YEY! But I place a Fighting Energy on Electabuzz because of the fear of Removals. I pass and places more Energy on Electabuzz, Thunderpunch.. heads. I'm really screwed now. When I went I picked up a Lightning Energy. I placed it on the Electabuzz. Thundershock to stall for time! tails. He placed energy on his other Electabuzz and Thunderpunched me for the KO. I placed up my fossil. I passed after I got my next card. He Thundershocked for the win. Me lose? NOOOOO. Oh well, I cant win them all.
Match 2    Alright, I picked up a great hand. 2 Hitmonchan, Ditto, Computer Search, Scoop Up, Energy Removal, Fighting Energy. I placed my Hitmonchans (one as the active) and the Ditto on bench. He flipped the coin, I called heads again... tails. Oh well. He flipped over his 2 Pokemon which were.... Electabuzz! I asked him "how many Electabuzz do you have in your deck?" and he answered with 2. Both games he got both his Electabuzz out on the first turn.. something is fishy. he placed Lightning energy and Thundershocked me.... heads. I picked up a Fighting Energyand placed it on my benched Hitmonchan. Then I used scoop Up on my Active Pokemon to bring out the Hitmonchan. I removed the Energy and Jabbed for 40. He then put down a Base Zapdos and placed Energy on his Benched Electabuzz. He passed. I then pick up another Ditto, I put it on the bench and place Fighting Energy on the Active Hitmonchan and Jabbed for the KO. My prize is a Super Energy Removal. He brought out his Zapdos to stall for a while. He placed Energy on his Electabuzz and passed. I pick up a Switch and Computer Search away the SER and Switch for a Professor Oak. I pick up 2 Double Colorless Energy, another Hitmonchan, 2 Energy Removals, Gust of Wind, and Professor Oak. I use my Gust of wind to bring out the I then place the Double Colorless Energy on Hitmonchan. Special Punch for the KO. I pick up some Lightning Energy in my prize. He brings out the Zapdos and puts down a Base Pikachu places Energy on Zapdos and passes. I get more Lightning Energy put place a Double Colorless Energy on the Ditto. I Special Punch for 10. he goes, and places more Energy on the Zapdos. I pick up a Computer Search, and then searched for a Double colorless Energy and placed it on Ditto. I then professor Oaked my hand. I then picked up an Electabuzz, 2 Fighting Energy, Lightning Energy, Switch, and 2 Super Energy Removals. I use the Switch for my Ditto and Thunderbolted the Zapdos for the KO. The Pikachu was easy, I retreated the Ditto for Hitmonchan and won.
Match 3    OOO, this was tense. It was all on this match. I draw 2 Ditto, Professor Oak, 2 Lightning Energy, Double Colorless Energy, and a Scoop Up. I place my Dittos and he places 3 Pokemon down. I called heads... heads it finally was. I went first and what do I see? I saw a Pikachu on bench and 2 Electabuzz (one was the active). Hmm, this man is making me very curious. I pick up a Plus Power and place the Double Colorless Energy on the Ditto. Thunderpunch... heads. He places a Lightning Energy and Thundershocked me.. tails. I went and grabed myself a Fighting Energy from my deck. I placed that Fighting Energy on the other Ditto and then I Thunderpunched for the KO. I picked up a Hitmonchan. he went and thunder shocked me for 10.. tails. I picked up some Fighting Energy and placed the Hitmonchan. I then used the Fighting Energy on the Hitmonchan. I placed my Plus Power on the Ditto and then Professor Oaked. I got 2 more Plus Powers and then I placed an Electabuzz down. Oooo, 3 Plus powers. Come on Heads! I used Thunderpunch and got... tails. 60 damage isn't bad. The kid placed more Energy on the Electabuzz and then Thunderpunched.. heads. He knocked out my Ditto and I brought out the Hitmonchan. His Electabuzz and Pikachu got Knocked Out and he was benched for my win!
2-0

The Judge gave me another win stamp and went away. I then watched Andy's battle. The game went for a long time and when the 1 hour time limit was up, Andy won with the most prizes taken. That was also his second win. While waiting for the Judge to do whatever he was doing, I traded some cards and got a Holo Scyther and a Computer Search. When the Judge was done we saw that there were only 4 people who actually went throught the tournment flawlessly like Andy and me. When we were given our matches I found that I was facing Andy! This might of changed one of our plans on reaching the finals.

Nikachu vs Andy
Match    1    Well this first mach was done in a second I got a Hitmonchan.. he had a Clefairy. Must I say who won?
Match    2    Okay, this was a boring match. It was pretty long. It was the fight of an Electabuzz vs the Mr.Mimes. What basically happened for the most of the begining of the game was I Thundershocked until he Mr.Mime was at 20 damage. Then on my next turn I would use a Plus Power to KO the thing. I did this to all his Mr.Mime but then he brought out a Base set Mewtwo. Ooo, well he placed some energy under it and passed. i retreat for Ditto and Comp Search for a Double Colorless Energy. Psychic for 40. He goes and uses Phychic for 40. I go and use Phychic for the benched win!
3-0

Excellent, everything is going towards planned. I'm winning and am unstopable. Then I hear my next opponent uses a Raindance deck..... crap. I usually have a 50/50 chance against these decks. the matches were going to be fast. And I pretty much already knew myself that I would lose. The little kid's name was Raymind. We were the only 2 players that had not lost yet and we were going onto our 4th and last game till the playoffs...

Nikachu vs Raymind
Match 1    I picked up many many pokemon. I had 2 Hitmonchan, 1 Ditto, 2 Mysterious Fossil, and 2 Super Energy Removals. Well No Aerodacty, No Electabuzz, No Energy, No Professor Oak, No Computer Search, No hope. Well, I lost the toss. He had 2 Squirtle at active and a benched. Well, he had a Squirtle. I'm already considering myself the loser. He placed some Water Energy and Bubbled my Hitmonchan for 10.. tails. I pick up a Plus Power.. no use for that. I pass. He Computer Searches for a Blastoise and uses Pokemon Breeder to evolve Squirtle into the Blastoise. He placed all his Energy on the Blastoise and Professor Oaked. I going to be destroyed by a Grade 3er! He placed 2 Aticuno an Hydro Pumped me for the KO. He kept using the Blastoise till I had nothing left. He won match 1.
Match 2    I had a pretty crappy hand to play against a Raindance deck. Hitmonchan, Switch, 2 Plus Powers, 2 Fighting Energy, and an Energy Removal. I prayed to my god Nikachu that I wouldn't have to face an Articuno. I called heads.. tails.  He flipped over his one basic... Magicarp! he placed an energy and tackled me. I placed Fighting Energy and 2 Plus Powers. KABOOM. Jab for win. I guess I'm still in it.
Match 3    I had a great hand, it was perfect in every way. Electabuzz, 2 Mysterious Fossil, Lightning Energy, Computer Search, Super Energy removal, and a Professor Oak. I placed my Electabuzz and called heads... HEADS! I was facing a Poliwag, Magicarp, and 2 Squirtles. But I went first. I picked up a Fighting Energy and place the Lightning on the Electabuzz. Then I play both Mysterious Fossil. I Thundershock his Poliwag and get tails. He adds some water Energy and then Professor Oaks. He Water Guned me for 10. I picked up a Fighting Energy and play it. Then I Computer Search for Aerodactyl. I then Professor Oak. I get More Electabuzz's and  a Ditto. Since nothing could Evolve, I Knocked Out all of his basics with Electabuzz easily for the win.
4-0

That was so tense. Best battle ever. I was the only person in the whole tournament that didn't lose against my challenge. I had 4 wins and no loses. I checked up on some other players. I saw that Andy was doing fine, winning. And I went to the Lightning deck person. It was early in his game and he already had 2 Electabuzz out... very suspitious. I waited for about 45 minutes for all the games to be done. It was such a nervous 45 minutes. Then our decks all had to be inspected to see if we changed what we had in our deck from the beginning of the tournament. All of our decks were all legal. 5 people made it into the playoffs. Me and 4 others whom won 3 and lost 1. One of us got a Bye to go on ahaed without facing a match. I said it deserved to be me, I won all my matches. The Judge decided it out with a dice somehow and this is how it was going to be:

Raymind
    vs      -----------------------------------WINNER
Some Kid
                                                  vs         ------- TOURNAMENT WINNER
Andy
    vs    -------WINNER
Nikachu            vs            ----------WINNER
                 Lighning Deck Kid

Well It look like we were facing each other in the playoffs earlier that we thought. Andy and I were going to face each other. An something went wrong. Since many of the Battles took long, The Playoffs were going to be single elimination to catch up to time. The even worse thing is that even if I win I would have to play an extra person. It was all being stacked on me. The Judge here was the League Gym Leader for the Pendragon. He knew I was good and I believe this was suppose to be a challenge. Many already saw how it was being unfair to me and they complained. Yey, I have a few fans. Well, I just hoped that Raymind would lose against his opponent to relieve a bit of the stress on my mind. Onward with the battle!

Nikachu vs Andy (put together again!)
GAME 1    I started with an okay hand. Hitmonchan, Energy Removal, 2 Lightning Energy, 2 Fighting, and a Professor Oak. I placed my Hitmonchan (hoping it wouldn't get destroyed fast by a Psychic Pokemon). I called Heads... tails. He went first. He flipped over his only basic, a Mr.Mime.... Horay! He placed some Psychic Energy and passed. I placed some fighting Energy, Removed his, and Jabbed for 20. His next turn he didn't even place Energy and passed. I jabbed for the win.
5-0

Well, I felt sorry for Andy. We were both aiming to win but I was the one who replaced his spot. He wished me good luck and I did the same back. He left at 4th place. Raymind seemed to had won really fast as well, GULP. If I won my next match, I would face him in the last match. I now had to face then Lightning Deck Kid.

Nikachu vs Lighning Deck Kid
GAME 2    We both took a minute in shuffling our decks. I was watching him shuffle his deck as I noticed that he kept this small pile of cards on the top. So thats how he always got Electabuzz out. I had the insant suspition that he was cheating. When we were done shuffling our decks I told him to cut the deck which he couldn't refuse or else people would think that he rigged his deck. When we drew our cards I had an Electabuzz, Hitmonchan, Switch, Fighting Energy, Lightning Energy, a Scoop Up and Mysterious Fossil. I placed the Electabuzz out at front to absorb damage then I would Scoop it Up for the Hitmonchan. He placed 2 basics. I called heads like usual... heads it was. He had a Base set Pikachu and a Magnemite, heh no Electabuzz for him. I switched for Hitmonchan and then placed the Fighting Energy to Jab for the KO. I picked up a Computer Search. He brough out his Magnemite and I got paralyzed by his garbage. I picked up a Fighting Energy. I played Mysterious Fossil and Scooped Up my Hitmonchan for the mysterious Fossil. I discarded it and then brought out the Hitmonchan and attached the Fighting Energy to Jab for the win. YEEAAAHH!
6-0

What a tournament, 10 kids and people stayed by to watch the last battle since I still didn't lose and was given extra battles. I now had to face Raymind to battle for the 1st place spot. It was going to be all tense. I was so nervous. I beat out the impossible. Most of the competitors here all thought that the Pokemon League was too weak. Most of them had strong decks yet I'm still out on top. I thanked Lord Nikachu for getting me this far and then I sat at the table Raymind was at. He had his hand drew and all his prizes were laid. Since no one saw him shuffle his deck he had to reshuffle as I shuffled mine.

Nikachu vs Raymind
FINAL BATTLE    I drew an okay hand for this last match, I wish I had a Computer Search or something though. I got Electabuzz, 2 Lighning Energy, 2 Mysterious Fossil, a Ditto and Energy Removal. I played my Electabuzz out as my Active and kept my Ditto at bench. My Mysterious Fossil stayed in my hand. Ooo, one battle. I didn't want to lose this one. I got so far. I called heads.. tails. DAMN. He flipped over his one and only basic Magicarp! He couldn't stand his hand and decided to Professor Oak. He discarded a Pokemon Breeder and a Blastoise. He got Squirtle, Articuno and another Magicarp. Nooo! He had a pretty good chance on getting Blastoise next turn then destroying all to win the tournament. I didn't want that to happen. He attached Water energy on Articuno then passed. Picked up a Removal. I used it and placed Lightning Energy on my Electabuzz. Thundershock for 20.. heads. He went and... no Blastoise? NO BLASTOISE!!! Yes. He placed Energy on Articuno and passed. I got a Super Energy Removal and placed a Lightning Energy on my Electabuzz. I Energy Removed again to his Articuno then I Thundershocked for the KO. I picked up a Fighting Energy. He brought out another Magicarp and Put another energy on Articuno. I picked up a Scoop Up and Thunderpunched his Magicarp for the KO. I got another Scoop Up. He went and brought out Squirtle and placed energy on that. He Bubbled... heads. I picked up fighting Energy and placed it on Ditto. I couldn't scoop Up Electabuzz because I would lose my best attacker's Energy. I passed. He went and played more Energy on Articuno making it 2 he Bubbled for 10.. heads. Theres still more turns I said. I picked up a Hitmonchan and then use the Super Energy Removal in my hand on his Articuno, I removed the Ditto's Energy. This is what basically happened for the next few turns. I got no energy, neither did he. but he kept Bubbling me and Paralyzing me until I had 40 damage. Arrrgggg! I was getting frustrated. He picked up a card and apperently it was a Blastoise or something because someone blurted it out. he bubbled me again.. heads. !!!!! Grrr. I picked up my next card. Professor Oak! I used it immedietly. I got a couple of Removals, a Switch, and Energy and an Aerodactyl. I played it down on a Fossil so basically he was screwed. I got another Electabuzz and started to build that up. I switched for a Fossil and Discarded it for my Electabuzz back. I Thunderpunched for the KO, tails. The next few turns I took down his Articuno with my fresh Electabuzz which helped me win the game in 2 turns.
7-0

I have done it! I had won the tournament and a few were happy for me. I congratulated Raymind for getting so far and shoock his hand in respect. 2 people after the match asked for a copy of my deck so that they could create it. I gave them the copies that the Judge had. It was such a great moment. I won under all impossible odds and still made it! I raised Nikachu in appraisal then got my prize from the Judge. I was given 26 dollars in store credit, and a 1st ed Fossil pack. Inside I got a Holo Raichu. Its so cute! I treated myself to two 1st ed team Rocket packs with the store credit and got a non-holo Alakazam and a non-holo Magneton. All Garbage. I loved the tournament and will prticipate in the next one they have. Time for the Props and the Slops!
