Hey Pojo! Carmen here with my first report. The tourney was held
at Az Gamers. There were 32 Poke trainers here, which made it a 5 round
Swiss with 25 minutes time limit per round (One match each round) with the
top 8 going for first and second prizes.
On to the deck and report.

                                                2 gambler
                                                1 energy retrieval
I use a potpourri variant to accommodate the metagame here. The
strategy is to catch your opponent from every angle and beat them to the
prizes.

Match 1 vs. Ben (haymaker variant)
Ben is one of my best friends and he usually wins at the other
tourneys we go to. This is only his second DCI tourney and he got 3rd place
last time. I was kind of disappointed to have to battle him first round but
oh well. This match was very close and he was on the defensive early on.
Prizes were 5 to 4 in my favor when he scooped a Chan I had been slashing
with my Scyther. (That would have been my last prize) He then put out a
Lickitung and gusted my Mime while powering up a Scyther on the bench. He KO
'ed my Mime and I brought out my lone Scyther, I slashed for 30 then he SER'
ed me and slashed. On his next turn he used + power for the Ko and won by
prizes.
0-1

Match 2 vs. Betty (Rain dance variant)
Betty is another one of my best friends and I had battled her
deck before. She has slowbros on this deck to move damage to and poke
centers. I knew she didn't have any ER's or SER's so I was free to power up
every body. I kept SER'ing her little pokes (she did get a Blastoise out but
not enough energy to power it) I won in round 10 or 12 when she didn't have
a bench. (I did Ko an articuno with my fossil magmar!!!!)
1-1

Match 3 vs. Kid with weird deck (can't remember his name)
This one was easy after the kid made a mistake! Read on to see
what happened. I don't think this kid has been playing long. I started with
Ditto active and Mime on the bench to his Buzz. I went first and attached a
DCE to Ditto, 40 to him. He thunder shock with a tails flip, I got heads on
my thunder punch. Got my first prize. He brought out a Chan, which I also KO
in two turns. He brings out another Chan and KO's my Ditto. I still only
have a Mime on the bench, which I brought up thinking I was done. On his
next turns he attaches energy to Chan and RETREATS HIM for a benched Scyther
fully powered (I thought he was crazy) He laid down a + power and said
"slash for the kill". I said no due to poke power and he almost cried. Next
draw I get an Oak and get more pokes. I beat him on prizes after time was
called. (Lucky me!)
2-1

Match 4 vs. Mark (sponge variant)
Mark is another one of my good friends. We usually play during
league and he is good. I like battling him; he gives me a run for my money.
The game went my way from the start. He couldn't get Mewtwo powered (I kept
SER'ing him) He did KO a couple of my pokes with a Buzz but I came back with
a Ditto while powering up a bench Scyther. He go stuck with a Chan against
my Scyther (I scooped my Ditto after I SER'ed the Mewtwo again) He then Oak'
ed a couple of times and was running really low on draw cards. He danced
around with a couple of Scyther absorbing damage and then brought out a
Mewtwo and used energy absorption. I drew a gust and KO'ed one of his
Scyther for my last prize. Great match!!!!
3-1

Match 5 vs. Craig (crazy sponge deck)
I have never battled Craig, though we always go to the same
tourneys. He is another good friend and one of the best players out here. I
had a terrible hand (after 3 mulligans). 2 Chans and rest energies. He had a
couple of Mewtwo's and a couple of Scyther. At first it looked like I had
the upper hand, I kept SER'ing him and gusting the Mewtwo's but halfway
through the game he took over. Man, sometimes that is worse! He killed my
Chans and I had no bench left.
3-2

With that record I didn't think I'll make it to the top 8 but
miraculously I DID!!!!!!!!
Quarterfinals vs. Chad (turbo Wiggly)
I had 4 mulligans! Which gave him enough cards to get his deck
going. I couldn't get my sneak attacks out and he used his to get my SER's
back to the deck. He ER'ed and SER'ed me to death stopping my attacks. Then
he waved me to the middle of next week! So he won. He is good! But there is
always next week!

I got 8th place out of 32, not bad for only my 3rd tourney! I
had a lot of fun! I got 4 base2 boosters and 4 different promos for placing
in the top 8. In the boosters I got holo Clefable, holo Raichu, comp search
and poke breeder which I traded for a base 2 clefairy I needed to finish
that set! Not bad for a $5.00 entry fee!!!

Props:
To Mike and Az Gamers! They run great tourneys and he always makes it
worthwhile.
To Ben and Craig! They split for 1st place!
To all my opponents! They made it a lot of fun for me.
