I recently played in a reasonably large Pokemon
tournament at the Mana-Vault,
Glasgow in Scotland (14th May 2000).  Entry fee was 3
pounds ($5.00).  Around 30 people played in the
tournament.  We played a league format of 5 rounds,
with 3 points awarded for a win, 2 draw and 1 point
awarded if you lost.  The winner was who finished with
the most points.

TURBO TUFF V2.0 Double Impact (Tournament Edition)

4x Jigglypuff (Mime killer)
3x Wigglytuff (Da man!!!)
4x Scyther (Resistant to Hitmonchan)
4x Hitmonchan (Destroys all Colourless walls)

3x GOW
3x Plus Power
3x Oak
3x Bill
3x Energy Removal
2x Super Energy Removal
2x Switch
2x Computer Search
2x Item Finder
2 Lass

16 Fighting
4x DCE

Round 1
Me Vs. Rosemary
A fairly easy opening match, she played a sort of
Psychic and Water deck.  Her Jynx was a threat to
Hitmonchan early on but Jigglypuff soon took care of
it.  Her Gyrados managed to kill 1 Scyther until I
Oaked and drew Wigglytuff.  Wigglytuff destroyed her
remaining benched basics to win the match.
Record (1 for 0) 3 pts

Round 2
Me Vs. Zak
Very straightforward win.  He started with 1 Scyther
and no energy. It was eventually knocked out when I
Com Searched for Wigglytuff.  He had no more basics
left so I won.
Record (2 for 0) 6 pts

Round 3
Me Vs. Alan
Took a massive gamble here.  I won the toss and
started with Scyther active to his lone Base Set Abra.
Smelling a quick victory, I retreated Scyther in
favour of Chan.  I attached an energy and Oaked a very
promising starting hand.  The Plus Power did not
arrive.  However another Oak appeared and I used it.
Still no Plus Power!  But fortunately a Com Search was
available. I searched for the Plus Power, slapped it
on the table and basked in the glory of another easy
victory!
Record (3 for 0) 9 pts

Round 4
Me Vs. Mark
The competition stiffened at this stage.  All players
with a 100% record still intact were to face-off.  He
used a very capable Grass deck focusing on Venasaur's
immense Pokemon Power.  He mulliganed twice to give me
an early 4 card advantage.  Because of this,
Wigglytuff became loaded by turn 2.  I had 2 Scythers
2 Chans and a Jigglypuff.  His Pinsir was simply
cannon fodder.  He managed to produce 1 Venasaur but
the show was over.  I got the first hit, he
Solarbeamed and then I finished Venasaur off.  A
potentially tricky match made easier by his unlucky
starting hands.
Record (4 for 0 )

Round 5
Me Vs. Nick
We both had 100% records at the beginning of this
match, only one person would reign victorious.  I knew
this would be a hard fought battle as he is one of my
best friends.  He played a fairly solid Haymaker with
Electabuzz and Scyther among others.  The match
started evenly as we both had fairly good hands.  At
least his seemed good from my point of view. I got out
Wigglytuff fully loaded within 6 turns. We took a
couple of prizes each on the way to this.  He used SER
on Wiggly to remove a DCE and a single. I panicked.
On my next  turn I drew a Bill, played it immediately
and drew not 1 but 2 DCE's.  I was very pleased but
also very lucky.
Wigglytuff finished off a Hitmonchan and Electabuzz
via Plus Powers.  Game, set, match and TOURNAMENT!!!
Definately the hardest match of the day but what can
you expect in the finals.
Record (5 for 0)

My first ever tournament victory!  I finished the
tournament unbeaten, which I was pretty proud of.
I've come close to winning in the other 2 tourney's
I've played but always just beaten to it by someone
else.  For winning I got 6 Base Set boosters
containing Chansey, Magneton, Venasaur Beedrill,
Devolution Spray and Item Finder.  I was fairly
pleased with those cards even though I have stacks of
the Base Set.
