DCI sanctioned tournement, 6 participants

Hey everybody! This deck is called ThunderSlash and is based on electabuzz and scyther with clefable to take out big pokemon.I've been playing this deck for about a month now and its been doing great. The tournement I went to at Name of the Game was really small. Only 6 people showed up compared to the usual 10 or 12. The people that did show up though are good. So I guess I can't expect to have any easy wins.:)

ThunderSlash v1.0

Pokemon:14<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
4 scyther  (free retreat and colorless attack! and also good against fighting pokemon)
4 electabuzz (One of the best cards in the game in my opinion)
3 clefairy (just an annoying sidestep before getting clefable)
3 clefable  (ahh... the power of metronome)

Energy:18
14 lightning (this is pretty low
4 double colorless

Trainers:28
4 pluspower
4 gust of wind
3 super energy removal
3 energy removal
3 bill
3 professor oak
2 scoop up
2 item finder
2 lass (explained in the stategy)
2 computer search

Strategy:
The point of this deck is to use hard hitting basics to deal lots of damage using  one of my personal favorites electabuzz. It has clefable basically because I’m seeing a lot of big evolutions where I play and also a lot of psychic pokemon (which clefable works wonders against). Now, Lass is a little bit of a strange card but I use it sometimes against decks that depend on trainers to work like Raindances. It also is great for the people who like to keep that annoying super energy removal or Scoop up until it hurts the most.

And now on to the report...

This tourney was five rounds of swiss.
Round 1 vs.Ning with electricAero deck. Well, this was one of the decks that my deck was made to beat but for some reason it wasn't working:(
Match#1
I start out with electabuzz and so does he. We go on doing the same thing for about ten turns and then it comes down to him with a fully charged electabuzz with 30 damage and  me with a fully charged scyther with 20 damage. He still had 3 prizes and I only had 1. I had a scyther in my hand but I hadn't thought to put it down. Next turn he puts a pluspower down and gets heads on the flip and I lose the first game.(next time I'm putting down the basics that are in my hand) =(
Match record 0-1
match #2
This game I did much better but still I couldn't get my deck rolling because I was missing energy most of the time. It ended where I had two scythers and I was desperately looking for some energy. Earlier I had professor oaked when I had all my professor oaks in my hand and now all I had was a comp search and there wasn't anything to search for because I also had used all my itemfinders. Basically I retreated again and again until both scythers were dead.
Match record 0-2
Round 2-bye I just got to sit around playing Soul Calibur for a while :)
Round 3 vs. Du (Nings little brother who is excruciatingly annoying)with scyther Articuno deck. Du's been playing this deck for quite a while and he seems to do ok but I think that the strategy is a little weird.
Match#1
I started out with scyther and he started out with articuno and scyther on the bench. Luckily I started out with an energy and a doublecolorless and 2 pluspowers. I billed and then billed again to get 4 pluspowers! Second turn I wasted them all on the Articuno.:) Then I went on to kill his scythers and articunos by gusting him around a bit. At the end I beat him by trapping his ditto that had 60 damage on it but was copying a scyther. If he tried to retreat it he would lose and so he let me finish it off.
match record 1-2
Match#2
This match was a lot like the first accept that I didn't use all my pluspowers on the second turn. It went on for quite a while until my deck got so low from oaking that Du went into stall mode. It came down to him with an articuno with no energy and a scyther fully charged (both with 30 damage) I only had a lonely electabuzz with thirty damage as well. I only had two cards left in my deck and only 2 prizes. If I could get heads on my next coin flip my thunderpunch would give me the win. Of course I didn't get heads and so he lived and I lost.
match record 2-3
Match#3
This was a rather long match where nothing really big happened. After about three quarters of our decks were gone Chris (the store owner) came over to watch because he kept taking a really long time to take his turns. Finally I just got out a scyther and kept energy removaling him while I did a constant 30 each turn until he had no more basics.
match record 3-3
Round 4 semi-finals vs. Ben with Raindance(which is kinda slow)
match#1
This game was kinda shifty because the tables kept turning giving the other person the advantage. Ben got out a Blastoise in the first few turns and Electabuzz swiftly got destroyed him but just as soon as I killed off one another came back. I thought I was done for but Ben had wasted so much energy before, that he didn't have enough to keep up with me energy removals so I took the win.
match record 4-3
match#2
This game was very long and we both went to the bottom of our decks. It came down to Ben trying to stall me while I tried to pick up my last few prizes. His problem was that he hadn't got much play with his Blastoise so the backups had  to pick up the slack. After some skillful gusts of wind and pluspowers I finished him off with only about 5 cards left in my deck.
match record 5-2
Round 5 finals vs. Ning (again)
match#1
This time I played Ning I was going to be sure to play smarter. I knew I could beat him if I just played right. This time I opened with Clefairy and he opened with a Zapdos and a fossil on the bench. I was a little worried to only have a Clefairy but I knew that if I could just get a Clefable that I would easily defeat him. Luckily I had a professor oak. I drew energy,S.E.R scyther, and clefable. I evolved clefairy and did 100 damage to Zapdos killing it.Then his aerodactyl killed off my clefable and I loaded up scyther and killed off his aerodactyl. By now he had another Aero and scyther dealt with it swiftly. Soon I got another clefable and now all he had left was a zapdos. I use metronome killing off his last basic. :)
match record 6-3
match#2
This was the shortest match I played in the tournement. It only lasted for four turns. We both open with electabuzz. I win the coin flip and attach an energy to electabuzz and thundershock with tails. Ning goes and thundershocks with tails. I go but I didn't pull an energy so I thunder shocked again(this time I get heads). Ning is uneasy now because he has no other basics so he asks if I have a pluspower. I didn't so I told him no. So he says go and I draw... a pluspower! I oak after attaching the pluspower and get a second energy. Now, Ning had a comp. search in his hand and was ready to get another basic, but if I could get heads on my thunderpunch I would win(his electabuzz had 20 damage).So... This time luck is on my side and I flip heads. I win the tournement!
final match record 7-3

This Tourney there weren't many people so the prize was only 15$ store credit and another promo arcanine(I already have one). I only decided to get one basic booster and save the rest and I pulled a Mewtwo. I guess thats pretty good for buying only one booster but not as good as Ben (the guy with the Raindance) who bought only one booster with his 3.00$ store credit (from placing third) and pulled a Charizard!!!

Props and slops...
props to Ben for pulling a charizard with only one booster!
props to me for winning the tourney :)
props to Name of the Game for the greatest tourneys
props to electabuzz for coming through the victor :)
props to Soul Calibur for being the greatest Dreamcast game ever

slops to Ning for copying Liams deck(A.K.A. W. Myers)
slops to Du for being so darn annoying and taking too long to take his turn
slops to...well, actually, I don't have any more slops cuz this tourney kicked a@#

Well, I really liked how the tourney came out and I think that my deck did great. I hope this gets on the killer deck reports. If you have any comments or suggestions about this deck email me at sdgz@hotmail.com
Later,
