Bookland Pokemon League Tournament
Ah! Here comes Team Rocket! It looked like they were here to stay, and that
the weeks to come would look grim. But Wait! The night before, I had decided
to once again play Haymaker's Potpourri, the original version that won at
Rama Llama, and the biggest Tourny ever!((Spelling is right now -_-)). With
some luck and skill, I could overcome Team Rocket! The deck did good, but not
as good as I expected. The point of the deck was to expose the opponets
weakness, and take care of it, or to be able to handle any deck. I also read
the Article in November's TCG Strategies. Thanks for posting that Scott,
you'll notice that I went on some of your advice. Maybe I didn't do as well
because of no buckeye, but oh well. Here is the deck, Haymaker's Potpourr by
Scott Gerhardt:

3 Hitmonchan
3 Electabuzz
3 Scyther
3 Mr. Mime
1 Kangaskhan
1 Ponyta *DO NOT SEND MAIL TELLING ME TO DROP THE PONY!*

3 Bill
3 Professor Oak
3 Gust of Wind
3 Super Energy Removal
2 Energy Removal
2 Energy Retrieval
2 Scoop Up
2 PlusPower
2 Item Finder
1 Computer Search
1 Lass

7 Fighting Energy
6 Electric Energy
6 Psychic Energy
3 Double Colorless Energy

Well it was regular league play. It was on Saturday the 22nd, the day
before Easter. I strolled in expecting to show everyone that Potpourri could
still handle  everything without having much trouble; I underestimated the
people there, and lost 1 game. Ouch! Also, I have a bad memory about things,
and may only give small details.

Game 1 VS Ben w/Promo Mewtwo Wiggly deck.
Well, Ben is really a tough competitior, and I planned to beat him this
week. We drew, and I started Scyther. I went first and played Hitmonchan to
his Mewtwo, retreating Scyther. Although it sounds suicidle, I continoud, and
played Lass. It nailed 5 trainers including 2 Team Rocket Seek, 1 Gust of
Wind, and some other things. That gave me the edge, as I went through the
next couple turns. Kills went both ways. Mid game I played Electabuzz, and
did 30-40 a turn, having 3 prizes to go. I managed to get some kills on
Mewtwo, and a Jiggly. I then continoud with Electabuzz to fight off Scyther.
With 50 damage on Electabuzz, I scooped him up, promoted Mr. Mime, and
cleaned house. I killed 1 Scyther off, with 1 prize left, but that next turn
he decked himself.
Record: 1-0
Feeling more confident about myself, I decided to play Corry; Let's see how
it went between the two of us:
Game 2 VS Corry w/ Light Speed (My creation, grrrr)
Well, since I was playing my own deck, I knew the weaknesses of it. The
goal of the deck was to soften up your opponet's Pokemon with Electabuzz and
Scyther. Mr. Mime would clean up whatever was left over, and Wigglytuff  was
there for the late game. I started pretty well with Scyther to his Promo
Mewtwo. I retreated Scyther for Kangaskhan, and begain to fetch. I drew about
7 cards with Kanga, until Wiggly took him down. Hitmonchan came in to take
down the 1/2 weak Fighting deck. I never got Hitmonchan to full power, but
did get my Jabs off. I killed a couple Pokemon; including Electabuzz, and a
Wigglytuff. I was sitting easy at the end, with a Mr. Mime out stalling and
using Gust of Wind. He Fuji'd a few times, but in the end he decked himself.
Record:2-0

Game 3 VS Kevboe w/Psychic, Fighiting. Wiggly splashed in.
Well I played Kevin again this week. I always seem to either get too
cocky or just don't think straight when playing him. This was a SlugFest!! I
got the jump on him with Scyther, and Hitmonchan. Electabuzz got a few good
shots at Mewtwo, and my SER's and ER's kept his Wiggly down to nothingness.
In about 10 turns or so, I had 3 prizes to his 1. I used Professor Oak,
seeing that I had more cards then him, and drew a new hand. I got a couple
more kills using Hitmonchan, Scyther, and especially Mr. Mime. In the end, a
few Fuji's helped him not to deck himself, which kept him in the game. I
played Hitmonchan active, and Gusted a Mr.Mime 2 times for the kill. I had 1
prize left. At the end, he had a fully powered Scyther on the bench, and an
active Hitmonchan with 2 Fighting Energy. I couldn't find any removals, and
with 1 Scoop Up, and an Oak, 7 Cards in my deck, and know way to take down
his undamaged Scyther and Hitmonchan, I conceded. If I would have Scooped Mr.
Mime, he would have killed my Scyther, because I saw a Gust of Wind in his
hand.
Record:2-1

Game 4 VS Keith, w/ Promo Mewtwo, Wiggly deck (Same as Ben's)
I started pretty good with a Ponyta, a Hitmonchan, and a DCE. Knowing he
would play Scyther, and having 2 Gust of Wind, I played the Pony. I went
first, and he flipped over Scyther (Yes!) and a Promo Mewtwo on the bench. In
2 turns I killed the Scyther, and he gusted Hitmonchan. I lost Hitmonchan two
turns later, but played Kangaskhan. I got quick kills on 2 Mewtwo and 1
Jiggly. Everytime he played a Jiggly, if I could, I would gust it. He got a
Wiggly out on me, but I locked it down with SER. Kangaskhan was then defeated
by a small Scyther. My Scythers played defense for me, until I got Chan. With
him catching up in prizes, I had to do something, fast. He got out a Wiggly
and killed another Scyther, leaving us at 1 prize a piece. I played
Scyther, and drew. It was HITMONCHAN. I played Chan, layed Energy, retreated
Scyther and delt Wiggly 40. He did 60 with Do The Wave, but I ended up
killing the Wiggly. Great Game!
Record: 3-1

Well the deck ran well. It can still handle all comers, even since Fossil
came out. I really learned not to underestimate my opponets. Keith had me
sweating and Kevin, with some luck, skill and a good deck, could overpower
mine for the win. I was going to play him at the KB league, but never got
time to get my revenge. Grrrr....I'll see you next week! Scott, do you think
the deck would work better with Magmar or Hitmonchan? I also never got a
response on why you took the PlusPowers out. Is there any reason, and can you
answer these questions? Well that's all for this week. Send all mail to
CorranHorn8386@aol.com.
