Northwest Classic Cards and Comics
Kennewick, Washington
12am-3pm

Good day Pojoaddicts! Geoffrey 'ePaulson here to give an analysis of my
day at a Pokemon Tournament.

My deck is a Sponge varient, and was given the pet name 'Magicite Mayem'
because I just plain love Final Fantasy VI, and it's loveable villain
Kefka. And besides, the way I announce what I do is fun...

Here it is!

Magicite Mayhem

4 MP Mewtwo
4 Electabuzz

Trainers (Spells/Summons)

4 Proffessor Oaks
3 Bills
1 Lass

3 Scoop Up
4 Computer Search
4 PlusPower
3 Item Finder
3 Gust of Wind
1 Gamber

Energy Cards (Mana/MP)

12 Psychic Energy
7 Electric Energy

The tournament was held at Northwest Classic Cards and Comics, it was done
in Swiss style and although it was NOT DCI sanction, DCI rulings were
followed to the letter.

Now let's stir up some MagiTek Mayem! Uwee Hee Hee!

Battle One versus General Jubal Scharold, wielding his 'Death by Raichu' deck

Jubal is a good friend of mine, and I knew his deck was very good at
improvising against any situation. It was also probobly the longest game I
played at the tourney. It started off with my Mewtwo versus his Electabuzz.
He mulliganed three times, and I drew two extra cards twice (I decided not
to on the third mulligan) Because of this, I had a very healthy hand.
Mewtwo, Electabuzz, several energy, comp search, a bill, and two oaks, a
scoopup, a gambler, and energy retrieval. I won the toss and went first.

I tossed my two energy into the discard pile with CPU search and grabbed a
psychic energy and placed it on Mewtwo. I then summoned Electabuzz to my
bench, summoned Bill to draw two cards. After analyzing his bench (Mew and
Mr. Mime) I had Mewtwo cast Energy Absorption to pump him up.

His turn. He draws, places energy on Electabuzz, messes around with a CPU
search, and thundershocks with no paralyzation.

I drew, tap, upkeep... Placed an electric energy under the Electabuzz on my
bench and used a bill. Mewtwo and Psychic energy.... I ponder the
situation, then cast Gust of Wind to call up his Mew. I psyburn it for the
kill and draw my first prize.

His turn. He draws, and plays Chansey onto the bench, places psychic energy
on Electabuzz and thunderpunches for 40 damage

I draw, and then think. My hand was so huge, I couldn't decide what to do.
I gamblered to clear up my mind and threw a heads! Drew 8 cards. Much more
managable, and it eased up my thinking process. After placing Mewtwo down
on the bench, I placed another energy on Electabuzz to get him fully
charged. And I had Mewtwo cast Psyburn.

He draws, growls at his hand, and uses maintenence to get some good cards
out his hand before he oaks. He draws a card and his face lights up,
'Challenge!' He uses it and I accept the challenge, but decline from
summoning any pokemon onto my bench. He places Abra onto his bench. He then
uses Thunderpunch and flips tails, to KO my Mewtwo. So I promote Electabuzz

My turn, draw, tap, upkeep. Play energy on Mewtwo... I then Energy removal
Electabuzz, leaving it with no electric energy, but decide to have fun and
gust up his abra, and KO it for a safety.

He draws, thinks, passes. So I draw, place energy on Mewtwo, and
thundershock his Electabuzz out of the game. I then draw another prize. He
sends Mime. And can't do anything. For the next few turns Electabuzz beat
Mime around about (Energy problems *sigh*) Until he retreated it and
promoted Chansey. He stalled nicely with two well placed Pokemon Centers
until I finally use a plus power on a thunderpunch, flip heads, and KO it.
*whew* The rest of the Pokemon on his bench are then snacked upon by the
Mewtwo after he manages to KO Electabuzz, last kill goes in when Psyburn
with a Pluspower takes out Pikachu.

We shake hands, good game, long game! Very satisfying for both parties.
There was an odd number of people, so I got a 'Bye' for this round,
meanwhile, watched my sister almost cream a young, black haired man who
seemed to be in his twenties, before decking herself out... Since I needed
practice. I also had a friendly game against a gentleman running a
fire/electric deck. First game was short as Electabuzz beat up a few
Voltorbs very quickly. Next round he was able to get out Moltres and
Dragonair. Mewtwo made mincemeat out of Moltres and a few Voltorbs. And
energy removals/item finders made sure Dragonair was only able to land 60
damage with slam once before I promoted an Electabuzz and beat it into pulp.

Battle Three versus General Daniel wielding a 'Haymaker' deck.

He allowed me to look through his deck before the match began, we know each
other fairly well. ^_^ His masterful Psychic Stall/Attack deck was amazing.
However, he seemed to have taken it apart and was now using a Haymaker. 4
Hitmonchan, 4 Scyther, 4 MP Mewtwo, and 4 Electabuzz. Eeech. Thats a lot of
basics. But he had seemed to be very good at playing it.

He shuffle, draw, and flip. He goes first (Uh oh) After muliganning once. I
have Mewtwo active and electabuzz on the bench. He has a Scyther out.  He
places electric energy on Scyther and  says 'Go'. I draw, tap, upkeep.
Mewtwo with the aid of Bill and an Item finder casts Energy Absorption, to
charge himself up, but not before using an energy removal to knock off the
fire energy in case of double colorless. He goes, bills, and places
Electabuzz and Hitmon on the bench.

My turn. I draw, and place electric energy on Electabuzz. I then use my
wonderful deck manipulation power (CPU search and Oak)  to grab three plus
power and nail Scyther (yea!) He then promotes Electabuzz, and places a
fighting energy on him and says go. I draw, and then psyburn. He goes, and
places another fighting on Hitmon, and places Mewtwo on the bench. I
psyburn again for a kill. He promotes hitmon, and jabs. Mewtwo psyburns him
into pieces. He then promotes his Mewtwo, can't do anything and passes. I
psyburn it (80 damage, Yea) and win the match.

That was close. I expected Daniel to play his Psychic deck. I have HORID
luck against it. *whew*

My next round was against another friend of mine... Well, we knew each
other at least. :)

Battle four versus Shawn (I think) with a Water/Fighting deck

What can I say, I won the flip. And with Mewtwo active and comp searching
for electabuzz, putting energies into the discard, and koing his colorless
defense with pluspowers. I was able to mow throw an endless stream of
Machops and Staryus. ^_^ Wooooo! Onto the Finals!

Before the Finals began, I had a rules discussion with a few people. Scott,
could you please post the answers to these in this report? Or at least
e-mailing them to me?

1. Medicinal Retreating

Can you say, retreat a poisoned Eevee with no basics on the bench? Just pay
the retreat, bring it back, and then up?

My Response: No. When it retreats you MUST bring a DIFFERENT card into the
active slot. This is one reason why Scyther rocks so much

2. Special Energy Cards

Are Special Energy Cards (Double Colorless, Rainbow Energy, Full Heal
Energy, Potion Energy, ect...) wiped out back into the deck?

My Response: No. Ontop of these cards, it explicetly states that it is an
Energy cards, not a trainer card, which lass acts on.

Ok! Onto the Finals! :)

Round against a black haired gentleman who beat my sister and I cant
remember the name of...

This was the final match my friends... Here it goes

I got a really bad hand, one mewtwo, no energys, and tons o trainers and a
bit of energy Luckily he mulliganned, and I got to draw two cards. Bill and
Oak. Excellent...

We flip, I go first. Hip Hip Huzzah!

Mewtwo is out on the battle field against a Rattata. I bill and grab a
psychic energy and comp search. I comp search two psychic energy and grab a
third from my deck. Energy absorption. He attaches a fighting energy to
rattata, energy removals mewtwo and bites me. I draw, tap, upkeep...
No more psychic energys. Hmmm.. I attach two plus powers to Mewtwo and
gambler. Heads! I draw eight cards and place a Mewtwo/Electabuzz on the
bench. Attach energy to Mewtwo and Psyburn it for a kill (Thanks to
pluspowers) He promotes Onix, and builds up a diglett while I pound Onix
around. Right before I'm about to kill Onix he evolves Diglett to Dugtrio.
I SER Dugtrio before Psyburning Onix. Dugtrio is helpless and I pound it
down with Mewtwo. He then places up Cubone, attaches energy, and snivels. I
comp search and item finder for two pluspowers and Cubone is gone. His only
Pokemon left is a lowly spearow. He pecks me, and I attach a plus power and
Blast it into Itty Bitty Pieces! Uweee hee hee hee! I'm the top general!

Allright!

For winning first place, I nabbed two rocket packs and two base set two
packs. I got Gyrados, Clefable, Rocket Slowbro (NonHolo) and Rocket Golbet
(Holo) Not bad at all! Mwahaha!
