Hey PoJo, since I finally had my killer deck posted ( Machop Mafia /
August ) I've been reading alot of the older ones. The Poor Man's Haymaker
caught my eye and I decided to take it for a test spin at Gateway Comics and
More in Erie, PA on Friday, September 17.

First of all here's the deck....

15 Fire Energy
10 Fighting Energy

4 Charmander
4 Machop
3 Magmar
3 Farfetch'd
3 Rattata

4 Bill
4 PlusPower
4 Energy Removals
2 Professor Oak
2 Gust of Wind
1 Energy Retrieval
1 Scoop Up

This Tournament was fairly large, about 30 people, and it was double
elimination.

Round 1
Vs. Joe Mancuso and his Chansey/Charizard deck.

He started out with a Charmander and NO OTHER BASICS! What a lucky break. I
started out with a Machop and a benched Farfetch'd, and after three low kicks
he was down and out.
Record 1-0

Round 2
Vs.Bob Pickard

I must say after my upset in round 1, I was on a emotional high and didn't
really see what kind of deck he had, though I believe it was mono grass. He
had out a Scyther and was building up a Bulbasaur on his bench. I laid out
Magmar, with a Charmander on the bench, and Gust of Wind out the Bulbasaur.
With him out of the way, it was only a matter of time before my Charmander
caught up with Scyther.
Record 2-0

Round 3
Vs.Kurt Angeli and his Rain Dance deck

I knew I was in over my head with this one because of my deck lacking
electric pokemon. I laid out Farfetch'd, and benched a Rattata. He had a
Chansey out to stall while he benched a Squirtile. In a couple of turns we
were still deadlocked, untill he got a Pokemon Breeder and out came
Blastoise. That was the turn that killed me.
Record 2-1

Round 4 ( Losers Bracket )
A Rematch with Joe Mancuso's Chansey/ Charizard deck.

This wasn't exactly who I wanted to see again. His hand was much better this
time with him starting out Chansey and benching Charmander. He laid a
double-colorless on Chansey and starting scrunching. There was basically
nothing I could do except watch the Charmander evolve to Charizard. Sure I
tried stalling with Energy Removals and Gust of Wind, but I got out played.
Record 2-2

I was eliminated, but I did manage to win a booster pack with the one and
only Chansey in it. The eventual winner was playing a Mr.Mime deck, so I
would have had quite a match with him.The Poor Man's Haymaker works great so
tell Keith Williams he did well.
