GoggleBoy's Food4Thought
Otakon
August 14, 2006

So I went to Otakon 2006 (My fifth consecutive time at Otakon) and had a decent Shikamaru ("Naruto") costume for the convention. Now, I did not attend the East Coast Tournament and I'll let you know why. I was asked by a fellow Pojo-ian I found at the Inuyasha Party later why and really didn't have an answer for him. I paid $300 total to get from Maine to Baltimore to enjoy the convention as much as possible. In all seriousness, if I felt I had a chance to do well in the tournament, I might have played. I'm good...but not champion material. Also, I never really liked playing in any 'high stakes' tournament. Local tournaments are fine, but high stakes tournaments can bring out some negative emotions and frustration...and this is a game. I want to play, not stress. I digress.

So, I was present at the Inuyasha Appreciation Party where these fine gentlemen were running the show:

All these guys were real cool and seemed to be on their own high for the day. Of course when you get this much swag to pass out and then some:

...it's a good day. First thing they did was discuss the evening, give out tickets for the raffle, started playing any episode of Inuyasha, and then gave out promo cards. I like promo cards! Now, to answer the question, what's my luck with raffles. My number was 559. They called 556, 557, 558, 560, 561, 562, 563, and 564...and 4 of those people didn't even stay to grab their prizes. The grand prizes was a backpack full of $400+ in Inuyasha TCG stuffs. Oh yeah...I cried...

Aside from a few choice people behind me with a superiority complex, everyone at the event was great and were all in a good mood.

I did get a few names, contacts and some EXCELLENT trades with these folks:

All in all, I had a great time at the event and at the con in general. I would like to share a few favorite photos from the event to close out this short summary of the event.
