WOTC CHAT REPORT
October 12, 2000

Hi everyone, sorry about not having a Chat report last week, but I was away on business and was unable to attend.  Other than the errata on some of the Gym Challenge cards (as already reported by Pojo & PokeGym), there weren’t any major announcements last week anyway.

Wizards has upgraded their chat server and the new interface works pretty cool (except in HTML where it keeps scrolling back to the top (oldest) of the page [grumble, grumble]).  But they did have some problems getting the “Quiet Room” setup today (that’s where you hear just the questions & answers without everyone else’s chatter), so there were a lot more people in the room than normal.

We were also privileged to have Mike & Pat’s boss (aka “Dark Master Trainer Mike”) present to answer some of the questions while MT_Mike was on vacation this week.  Maple bars & donuts were flying everywhere (inside joke for Chat attendees).

Anyways, enough of my rambling and on to the good stuff:

EAST COAST SUPER-TRAINER SHOWDOWN AND “PROP 15” INFORMATION:

·        master_trainer_pat says, “For the East Coast STS:”

·        master_trainer_pat says, “New Deck Construction Rules: 60 cards total per deck, Unlimited number of basic Energy cards per deck, No more than 3 of any single Trainer card, Basic Pokémon card, Stage 1 card, Stage 2 card, or non-basic Energy card per deck, and no more than 15 Trainer cards per deck.”

·        master_trainer_pat says, “Additionally, the Ancient Mew promotional card and any card exclusive to the Pikachu World Collection®* are not allowed in the East Coast Super Trainer Showdown.”

·        master_trainer_pat says, “Here’s the URL for that: http://www.wizards.com/pokemon/main.asp?x=ECSTSrules

·        darkmt_mike presents the speaker with question #18 from magmar2000:

Over at Pokeschool, we are debating a loophole in the 3 card rule for the STS. Rules state no more than 3 of any “single” card can be used. But, could I use 3 Charmander base, and 1 Charmander TR? Or can you only have 3 cards with the same name?

·        darkmt_mike says, “It would be the same as the original 4 card rule. Only with 3 cards.”

·        master_trainer_pat presents the speaker with question #112 from ajw1111:

Hey Pat, Do you personally prefer playing with the prop 15/3 rules or with out them?

·        master_trainer_pat says, “Honestly, I’ve been having some fun putting together decks again. Which is cool. However, so far that limit to 3 of a certain card has kinda cramped my style. It sure made me revise my decks though.”

·        master_trainer_pat presents the speaker with question #75 from pokefreak75:

I have a Flames Of Rage deck that needs 4 of a certain card and so now it

gets punished cause of archetypes help

·        master_trainer_pat says, “Everyone has to build decks under the same rules for the STS. Use your imagination and skill to come up with a fix or a new deck. Nobody is being punished here.”

·        master_trainer_pat presents the speaker with question #107 from soph984: what tournament format will the STS use? Swiss, Double elimination, single elimination, other

·        master_trainer_pat says, “It will most likely use a Swiss format.”

·        darkmt_mike presents the speaker with question #108 from charwolf:

Also, just how many people is this event going to hold? According to several

reports people were turned away at the West STS

·        darkmt_mike says, “About 6000 total and 1500 for the tournament!”

·        master_trainer_pat presents the speaker with question #92 from charwolf:

What are the details on the East STS tournament itself, like how many players, how many rounds, how long will it go?

·        master_trainer_pat says, “I’ll try to round up some details for you by next week on that.”

·        darkmt_mike presents the speaker with question #32 from thundrchld:

Are gym 2 [Challenge] allowed in the quallifers? Also am I allowed to

participate in different flights the same day or go both days and enter the

tourney

·        darkmt_mike says, “Yes it is allowed. Yes you can participate in other flights and both days.”

·        darkmt_mike presents the speaker with question #24 [and #59] from frost82:

Will it be possible for prop 15 to take effect for regular sanctioned

tourneys

·        darkmt_mike says, “That depends on the tournament organizer.”

·        darkmt_mike says, “If the organizer wants to.”

·        darkmt_mike presents the speaker with question #101 from mr_mystery:

Will Prop15 take effect for the Pokemon League?

·        darkmt_mike says, “No.”

Will the STS format ever become an official rule?

·        darkmt_mike says, “No plan for that.”

PROMO CARDS:

·        master_trainer_pat presents the speaker with question #129 from robblytuff:

Any news about Neo being translated.

·        master_trainer_pat says, “No news, sorry.”

[Chrisbo Note: Don’t worry gang, I’m sure we’ll hear about it when it’s ready.  This question gets asked way too often, in my personal opinion.]

·        darkmt_mike presents the speaker with question #60 from paokkk:

What is the next “Wizards” stamp promo?

·        darkmt_mike says, “Brocks Vulpix”

·        master_trainer_pat presents the speaker with question #89 from soslowpoke:

Will there be any new promos for the rest of the year?

·        master_trainer_pat says, “The only one I know of is Brock’s Vulpix from TopDeck...it’s not a numbered promo though.”

·        darkmt_mike presents the speaker with question #65 from paokkk:

Any plan for the promo for the third movie?

·        darkmt_mike says, “Yes there is a plan to look at planning for that card if we decide to do it.”

·        darkmt_mike grins evilly.

[Chrisbo Note: Very funny, Dark Mike...]

·        master_trainer_pat presents the speaker with question #79 from draggle:

When will the 9 card pikachu set be brought here?

·        master_trainer_pat says, “The 9 card set ‘Pikachu World Collection’ will not be released here that we know of. However the cards in that set will be produced in English and distributed in different ways. Check out the Pokemon section of our website for more info on how they’ll be released”

·        darkmt_mike says, “It’s going to be a good year for Pokemon in 2001!”
