Kyle Theaker's Deck Garage
May 02, 2005

Zzzz…  Zz.. wha..?  Sorry people, I must’ve fallen asleep.  This deck does tend to do that to people.  This is one of the best decks that I’ve seen, not because it’s Torney-viable, but because it’s so original.  I’m calling this deck Good Night!

Kyle,

I have little access to cards.  My friend has a lot, and I trade him stuff from forever ago (base set, which he does not have) to get his newer cards.  I cant get most stuff that you give me, so please give your best.  In my neigborhood, Unlimited is different, we use evos, and Scyther, Buzz and sneasel don't run wild.  Evos survive to get out and let loose damage.  I will not be going to a tournament.  The strategy is to keep peole asleep with Dark Gengar, and use Hypno's poke body to add extra damage.  Misdreavus is late game back up.  What ever you want to change to this strategy is OK by me.

Pokemon

4 Gastly (Neo Densitny)

3 Dark Haunter (-)

2 Dark Gengar (-)

4 Misdreavus (Neo Revelation)

4 Drowzee (Rockets (first one))

3 Hypno (Fire Red and Leaf Green)

Trainers

4 Bill (Base)

4 Super Potion (Base)

4 Sleep! (Rockets)

4 The Boss's Way (-)

4 Nightly Garbage Run (-)

Energy

20 Psychic

Please accept this deck into your garage.

Jose

Sleep… I love it.  It seems like so much fun, I may build one for myself.  I’m going to alter the strategy a bit, just wait…

Pokémon

The lines you run are decent, but it must be exhausting trying to get out all those fun little combos you run.  I’m going to focus this deck around another Pokémon.  To make room, we’ll have to drop Dark Gengar and Haunter and Misdreavus.  Misdreavus has a good attack, but it’s so situational and Missy doesn’t have good staying power.  As for Gengar, Deep Sleep is great, but it uses up too much space and doesn’t work with the Pokémon that I’m about to suggest.

-      3 Dark Haunter

-      2 Dark Gengar

-      4 Misdreavus

The Pokémon that this deck will focus around is… (Drumroll, please)

BASE SET HAUNTER!!  This Pokémon deals MASSIVE damage when the opponent is asleep, which they should be most of the time.  Let’s add 3.  Let’s also add 2 Tyrouge (Neo Discovery) to handle Psychic resistance and Jungle Snorlax.  Snorlax is great for stall, gets around resistance, and can’t fall asleep from Drowzee’s power.  My respects go out to the late, great Satoshi for thinking up this combo first.

+ 3 Haunter

+ 2 Tyrouge

+ 2 Snorlax

Trainers

Obviously Sleep! is a staple in this deck.  The rest need some help, though.  We need to alter your drawing engines so getting what you need doesn’t become a nightmare.  First off, remove Bill.  It was great, but there are better options now.  You need Oaks.  No Unlimited deck should be without these terrific Trainers.  Also play 3 Computer Search so you can get what you need when you need it.

- 4 Bill

+ 3 Professor Oak

+ 3 Computer Search

Since you’re now using the big blob of beef, Snorlax, you need retreat aid for him.  You could retreat him naturally, but that’s expensive.  We’ll scrap the Super Potions and play Mr. Briney’s Compassion instead.  This also acts as a healing card, returning a banged-up Pokémon to your hand and moving your 1,014 pounds of Poké-blubber out of the way for your Haunter to come in and wreak havoc.  We’ll also run 2 Switch to move Snorlax.

-      4 Super Potion

+ 3 Mr. Briney’s Compassion

+ 2 Switch

Also, without any Dark Pokémon left, The Boss’s Way is useless.  Remove it.  You also don’t need 4 Garbage Runs, so we’ll cut it down to 2.  Play a few Gust of Win(d) and some Rocket’s Sneak Attack for disruption.

-      4 The Boss’s Way

-      2 Nightly Garbage Run

+ 3 Gust of Win(d)

+ 3 Rocket’s Sneak Attack

Energy

With Snorlax, speed is essential to a quick power-up.  We’ll run Double-Colorless Energy to accommodate this.  We’ll also run 2 Full Heal Energy because you can’t afford having your Poké-Powers shut off.  We’ll remove some Psychic to make room for it.

-      5 Psychic Energy

+ 2 Double-Colorless Energy

+ 2 Full Heal Energy

Here’s your *yawn* final count:

Pokémon: 18

[4] Gastly

[3] Haunter

[4] Drowzee

[3] Hypno

[2] Snorlax

[2] Tyrouge

Trainers: 23

[4] Sleep!

[3] Professor Oak

[3] Computer Search

[3] Gust of Wind

[3] Rocket’s Sneak Attack

[3] Mr. Briney’s Compassion

[2] Switch

[2] Nightly Garbage Run

Energy:  19

[15] Psychic Energy

[2] Double-Colorless Energy

[2] Full Heal

Well, that wraps things up.  José, I hope you enjoy this deck.  To the rest of you, send in your decks.  Me, I’m going to sleep… Zzzz…

Kyle
