No Retreat
Deck Type: Non-Archetype
(Cross with Spikey-poo)
October 18, 2000

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Name: Matt Stille
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

mIRC nickname (if you have one): mwsmagmar

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Email Address: mwscardsfan@hotmail.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced.  I have only played in the West
Dundee and Kansas City East Coast STS Qualifiers.  As most of you know I got
to 4th round of KC qualifier and got a "Golden Ticket".

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Speed Metagame in your area:  It was fast but not so fast in the Qualifiers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Strategy of your deck:  Well, it is to get at least 1 Dodrio out w/ Rocket's
Training Gym out and try to have Scyther active.  The main strategy is to
make my opponent pay extra to retreat and have myself pay 0 retreat.  Dark
Muk is to make the opponent have to discard an additonal 3 energy w/
Rocket's Training Gym out and the 3 Dodrios will make Dark Muk retreat for
free; pretty evil huh? :)

Other info you feel is important: Hope you like this deck but I hope it
doesn't become an Archetype which I doubt but it does have potential.  I
also am wonderng if I should tak out Full Heal Energy for Potion Energy or
something else, but I'm not sure.  Talk to you all on AIM and a select 20 or
so on AIM (mostly OPs).  Oh yeah, and I just thought of this deck this week,
:).

Hey, Matt!!!!

[Editors Note: Yes, another cool Pojo person... Matt is mwsmagmar on Pojo.com's chat. He is a judge and an op for our online Apprentice League.  (If you are interested in the world's largest Pokemon focused league online, be sure to visit Pojo's League page for more information.)  I had the privilege of playing against him in a test game at the STS Qualifiers in Independence, MO... man, we took it down to the WIRE in that game! He had a really great original deck (original deck builders RULE!!!!!) utilizing Agility, etc, though I will leave it to him to give away his deepest secrets ;)...]

Well, Matt, you have a nice deck idea here. I'm going to go with the premise you propose...

Pokémon:

The biggest concern I see is Mewtwo Movie Promo.  Believe me, I know, since I run Dk Muk... he can wreck ya unless you have resistance. I'm adjusting your numbers a bit and giving you Chansey to stall or eliminate that bad ol' kitty.

Trainers:

A nice mix, but if you are going for Energy Removal, you have to go all the way with it, at LEAST 3/3... I prefer 4/3. It is GREAT in a Dark Muk deck. Basically, when Dk Muk is up, the turn you will KO, you eliminate the E from any threats on the bench, then someone has to come up to active naked as a Jaybird.... or Farfetch'd, as the case may be.  Play this deck SLOWLY... hold off on Oaking as long as possible.  It seems to work best that way, and you'll keep from decking. Another problem may be that you don't have enough basics if you run up against Trap.  Depends on the metagame in your area. Adjust as necessary. I had to eliminate the Erika's to make the room for trainer adjustments... *shrug*... you can only have so much goodness, I guess...

Energy:

Slightly adjusted....

Matt, when you see me on aim or mIRC, let me know if you get to play-test the original or new version... I'd love to know how it goes!  For another perspective on this deck, you should ABSO-FREAKIN'-LUTELY check out Spikey-poo's version at his Shed... (and while you are there, give him a big bear-hug for me, will ya?)
