						Xerneas
						EX (XY)

Hello and welcome to some more XY reviews on
						Pojo’s
CotD. We kick off the week with a look at
						Xerneas EX, which is the
Fairy Type’s designated big-hitter (so far, anyway).

Being an EX means that Xerneas
will have a massive HP and some pretty big attacks.
Being a Fairy Type means that it
will get some great support from cards like
						Aromatisse XY and the little
						version of Xerneas.
We already know that the support cards make Fairies a
viable deck these days, so the question is: is
						Xerneas EX good enough to
fulfil an attacking role in that deck?

Well, sort of. I guess. The best way to describe
						Xerneas EX’s attacks is to
call them adequate for the format. Of course this means
that by most other standards they are extremely
powerful. Break Through can do a moderate 60 damage, but
the extra 30 it does to a Benched Pokémon (as
						Darkrai EX has taught us)
can be crucial in setting up future KOs. Meanwhile X
Blast hits for a pretty good 140 which is enough to OHKO
almost every playable Stage 2 and will even take out
those 170 HP EXs with the help of
						Hypnotoxic Laser/Virbank
or a Break Through snipe. Both attacks are a little
						expensive, but with Baby Xerneas
						supplying acceleration and
Aromatisse moving Energy around, it shouldn’t be
						too much of an issue.

I’m not sure Xerneas will be
the main offensive card in Fairy decks: the Rainbow
Energy reprint has given them a huge range of options
that could be seen as superior to
						Xerneas EX: Lugia EX,
						Yveltal EX,
						Rayquaza DRX,
						Terrakion LTR,
						Landorus EX . . . these are
just a few of the Pokémon that people are trying to
abuse in Fairy Toolbox style decks right now. Don’t
						count Xerneas out altogether
though: he might not be one of the more spectacular EX
Pokémon we have seen, but he can get the job done.

						Rating

Modified: 3.5 (solid and very well supported)

Limited: 4.5 (yes, you can try that 1 Pokémon 39 Energy
						thing with this card)  |
