Magnezone EX

Today’s card is easily the worst EX in the Flashfire set. If you got one of these in your box, then you have my sympathy.

For an EX, Magnezone is hopelessly underpowered and outclassed by its fellow big Basics. It may have a big 180 HP, but there’s not much else to recommend it. Electro Ball’s 40 damage seems like an afterthought from the card designers and just isn’t adequate for an EX. Meanwhile, Dual Bullet’s 50 damage to any two of your opponent’s Pokémon is a re-working of Kyogre EX’s Dual Splash, only at a much more awkward cost: three Lightning Energy isn’t that easy to stack on a card with no real acceleration available. Besides, no-one plays Kyogre anymore.

Maybe Magnezone could have been good if Eelektrik NVI was still in the format, but it isn’t so . . . put this one in the binder or try and trade it away.

Rating

Modified: 1.75 (no need for sub par EXs when we have so many uber-powerful ones)

Limited: 4 (the snipe will be effective here, and it’s tough for non-EXs to KO)
