						Quagsire
						(Plasma Freeze)

The Japanese card designers sure do seem to love that
						Ability which reduces 20 damage
from attacks. We’ve seen it on
						Donphan Prime, Samurott
						BLW, Bouffalant DRX, and now
we get it on Quagsire PLF.
The thing I like about it is that it’s called
						‘Laid-Back’, which suits Quagsire’s
						derpy, oblivious nature.
Unfortunately, it’s not going to be enough to make
						Quagsire playable.

						That’s because Quagsire is a
Stage 1 Pokémon with just 100 HP. With
						Hypnotoxic Laser and
						Virbank City Gym running
rampant, it just isn’t that hard for most decks to do
						the necessary damage to OHKO
Quagsire. Next season, it gets even worse for the
Water Fish Pokémon, as its Grass Weakness is easily
						exploited by Virizion/Genesect
						decks.

This would be a shame if Quagsire
had a good enough attack to justify using him in the
first place. Unfortunately, all he has is Mud Gun, which
costs three Energy (far too slow)
and has a base damage of 60. True, if he has a Fighting
Energy attached, you get an extra
30 damage but this requires you to use Blend WFLM or
						Basic Fighting, making Quagsire
even more awkward to set up. It isn’t as if the payoff
is that great either: yes, it does two-shot an EX, but
						Quagsire will be long gone
						before that happens.

Pretty much just an underpowered filler card then, and
one that you certainly will not be seeing at US
						Nationals this week.
The best of luck to everyone who is going, and
						have a great holiday weekend!

Limited: 2.25 (somewhat durable, and kind of suits the
way most limited decks run multiple Energy Types)

						 Quagsire
It must be "Review Bad Cards Week,"
because none of this week's cards have any business in
any deck what-so-ever! Sure, Quagsire reduces damage it
takes 20, but its a measly 100 HP on a Stage 1 Pokémon.
100 HP is just enough to NOT be searchable by Level
Ball, but still an easy OHKO for a variety of attacks.
Mud Gun will hit for 30 more damage if you have any
fighting energy on Quagsire, making Blend Energy a great
card to combo with it, but even then, 90 for three
energy? That doesn't cut it anymore!
In limited, the ability is decent,
but in order to make it good, you'd be forced to run
fighting energy as well, limiting your options.
