Well, there are two Rapidash in the Arceus set (I know what you’re thinking . . . why Rapidash, of all Pokémon?). We may get around to the slightly playable one in a future CotD, but for now we are concentrating on the preview cards and that means . . .

. . . We finish the week on a low note!

Rapidash has an ok 90 HP, a bad Weakness to Water (in the current Format),and an always useful Free Retreat. As for its attacks . . . if it were a Basic, they would be acceptable, but on a Stage 1? No thank you.

For a single Fire Energy you can do 10 damage and inflict a Burn with Searing Flame. Burn is nice, but decks which use it have their own ways of getting it done (such as Blaziken). Add another Energy of any type and Flare will do a massive 40 damage with no effect. It should be obvious that this card is ridiculously underpowered for a Stage 1 and in Modified, most Pokémon will laugh off these weedy attacks right before they KO the Rapidash.

Limited is a different story though. Status Conditions tend to stick here as it is more difficult to evolve or retreat out of them, and although the attacks are weak, they are fast which counts for a lot more in the Limited Format.

Modified: 1.25 (Does far too little damage)

Limited: 3.25 (Much better here)

Kevin Ditzler Rapidash

Okay, so when this card was previewed, I was wondering how this card could possibly attract ANYONE to buy more cards or go to prerealeases. This card is so terribly bad.

90 HP is mediocre. Weakness to water isn't a good thing with Gyarados running around. Oh wait, it only has 90 HP anyways. No resistance isn't a bad or good thing. Free retreat is one of the 2 things this card has going for it.

No powers, this is the bad Rapidash. It's first attack is the 2nd thing this card has going for it. 1 for 10 is terrible, but it has auto-burn. This could potentially be useful with Blaziken FB. It's second attack does 2 for 40. It's as if they took a card straight from Base Set and named it Rapidash.

Cards that do a better job:
Everything except for Arcanine SV
Seriously, pick anything else. Anything.

The rant is now over. :D

Have a nice day.
