They may start off with 16 players, but after each "round", half of the players would be beaten and removed from the tournament. Once you lose, you are out. This is called "Single Elimination". In a "Swiss" tournament, you do not get kicked out of the tournament after losing a "round". You keep playing in EVERY round of the tournament. After all the rounds are finished, the judge would determine the winner by looking at everyone's WIN/LOSS records. The person with the best record wins. SWISS is way better for players (you play more and losing is disaster) SWISS is much harder on the judge (what if more than one player has the same "best record"?) Hope this helps, Brian Brokaw
