    I am a new user of pokemon the card game and I want to know if you can 
    answer some questions for me
     
    1. when beginning a game how many cards must one take my friends say
       take seven for yourself then take another six for prizes but I think 
       take seven and take one basic pokemon card out of it and put the 
       remaining six as prizes
    
    2. I know you cannot have more than five benched pokemon making you have 
       six pokemon all together at play one active and five benched but I want 
       to know if someone kills my active pokemon and I put one of my benched 
       pokemon as a active one is that can I pick up another basic pokemon card 
       from my deck at random and put it on my bench or do i discard it, because 
       my friends do this all the time and I thought a player only supposed to 
       get six pokemon cards.

Hello.

1) Your friends are correct.  First Draw seven cards for your "hand".  
If you have at least one basic pokemon in your "hand", then take the
NEXT 6 cards from the top of your deck and put them face down as
your PRIZE cards.  This should leave you with exactly 47 cards remaining
in your deck (all decks must be exactly 60 cards).

2) No, you may NOT search your deck for another basic pokemon when you
lose one.  Just play the cards that you draw.  You are NOT required to
keep 5 pokemon on your bench at all times.  MOST games that I play I NEVER
have that many pokemon out in play.
