Putting a Pokemon to sleep only erases 2 other kinds of effects: Confusion, Paralysis
(well, I'm not sure how the Paralysis situation would ever come up, but that is beside
the point ;-)
 
For example, putting a Pokemon to sleep will not cure it of Poison.
The sleeping Pokemon will still be taking Poison damage every turn.
 
So putting a Pokemon to sleep will not erase effects like "Swords Dance".
If you wake up in time for your NEXT turn (Swords Dance only lasts for 1 turn),
then you would still inflict 60 damage.
