One more "Smokescreen" > situation, I attack Charizard with Fossil Magmar's Smokescreen attack. > Opponent Charizard attacks with Fire Spin. If the attack fails, do they > still have to discard the energy? If so, what makes this situation > different from the Electabuzz situation? Thanks for the help. -------------------------------------------------------------------- They are different because Charizards discard is a COST (if Charizard does not discard those cards, it cannot use the attack), but Electabuzz's coin flip is a DAMAGE CALCULATION (this effect helps determine how much damage is applied.) If you have a rulebook handy, look in the very back. There are 2 GREAT pages to memorize: "In what Order Do You Do Your Attack?" and " "How Do You Figure Out the Damage?" On the first page it describes paying COSTS. On the second page it describes doing DAMAGE CALCULATIONS. Discarding cards as costs and flipping coins for Sand Attack (or Smokescreen) are all on the first page. Flipping coins for damage computation (like Thunderpunch) is on the second page. The 2nd page is a big explanation for that one little sentence on the 1st page: "Do any damage first" Hope this helps, Brian Brokaw
