Heh... That's an interesting question! However, the answer is No. When using Energy Conversion, the attack result is always: "Put up to 2 Energy cards from your discard pile into your hand." The self-inflicted damage is a necessary consequence of the attack. It is not a cost, and it does not "enable" the retrieval of the energy cards. Brian Brokaw
