Is his Pokemon still > Poisoned and/or Confused? You bet! Pokemon ailments always last beyond the Pokemon that inflicted them. You could use your Koffing as a "sniper" to confuse/poison the opponent, then retreat in favor of a Wall (Onix, etc) and let Poison do its work. Also, most status effects will typically last beyond the Pokemon that inflicted the effect. For example, if Fossil Magmar successfully Smokescreens your defending Squirtle, then Squirtle will still HAVE to flip a coin before attacking (even if Magmar was Gust of Winded back to your opponent's bench, or knocked-out due to Poison...) There are a few effects that require BOTH inflictor / inflictee to remain in position in order for the effect to remain in place, but these will be stated on the card (see Eevee's Tail Wag attack).
