Hi,

I am a mother of a son who is  9 yrs old and Pokemon crazy.  He has collected a lot of cards and was trading what my husband and I thought were cards that are worth something.  I told him he needed to get a book that told him the worth of these cards and he purchased your  Vol. 2 No. 2 Pojo's Unofficial Pokemon News & Price Guide.  I like your magazine but have a few questions.

1st- I wanted to know what does your Magazine title stand for?  Unofficial?

Unofficial means that we are not the officially licensed Magazine through Wizards of the Coast and Nintendo.  I think we're pretty darn good, though. *smile*

2nd- I have been helping my son look up the value of his cards by looking up the symbols (Base set 1, Jungle Expansion, Fossil Expansion, etc).  We have a symbol that we can not find in your book.  I thought that it was a Gym Heroes symbol but when looking up the card nothing matches.  The name etc on the card does not match.  The symbol looks kind of like the Gym Heroes symbol but upside down???  No words on symbol. Some are mostly white and some are mostly black.   We have a lot of these cards and want to know if there are any worth in them.

The "upside down" Gym Heroes symbol is actually the Gym Challenge series.  It is the latest expansion.

3rd- Where can my son go to get money for these cards if he chooses to sell them?  We don't live in a large city.  Is there anyway to find a buyer?  Helpful hints would be great!!

It just so happens that the best resource would be the one and only, www.ebay.com.  They are the best method for selling cards when not in a big city, and honestly, may be the best method even if you DO live in one.

4th- I also noticed that when matching up cards with the R symbol  (U.S. Team Rocket) in your Vol. 2 No. 2 magazine everything matched except the Card#.  In your magazine they are numbered 1/83 through 83/83.  My sons has several cards within the numbered 1/82 to 82/82.  For example he has the Abra and your magazine has it as Card # 49/83 but on his card it says Card # 49/82 and everything else is the same as what is printed in your magazine.  Is this set numbered wrong?  Does your magazine have a printing error?  Where do I find the worth of these cards?

Ah.  The old Rocket expanison.  See, WotC threw us a BIG curve ball on this one, by numbering one of it's cards (Dark Raichu) 83/82.  Why, we don't know.  Honestly, I think it was as last minute an add as possible.  All the other cards were already labeled x/82, so they had to label it 83/82.  So, there are indeed 83 cards in the set.  The worth can be found right here at Pojo.com or in our magazine price guides.

I really appreciate your help.  I try to understand this Pokemon stuff.  I just need a little help so my son won't get a bad trade when trading with bigger kids that know what they are looking for and try to make a trade seem great when it is really a bad trade.  We almost thought our son had traded one of the pricey Charizards but in fact it was NOT a Base Set 1.  Shew.  Still I would like to know if the other Blanine's Charizard was a pricey card.  It had the Symbol that I was talking about in Question #2.  I know he will probly make some bad trades but I want him to be prepared and know what he is giving up before it is to late.

Anything with "Charizard" in the name is going to be a little pricey, but trust me, Blaine's Charizard and BS1 Charizard are quite a bit off in value.  The Blaine's probably tops out at around $15, while the BS1 (non-1st) tops out around $40.

Thank you for your time.  I look forward to a response from you and appreciate all your help.

Sincerely,

Lori Haga
