Labyrinth of Nightmare
A Look Ahead
As most of you know, the next set to be
released in English is the Labyrinth of Nightmare set. This is a combination of the Japanese sets
Spell of Mask and Labyrinth of Nightmare.
I’m going to give you a small glimpse to see what is to come in this 6
part glimpse. 2 parts each for magics,
monsters, and traps, one each for Spell of Mask and Labyrinth of
Nightmare. I’m not going to go too much
in depth as that is for the Card of the Day to do in the future when the set is
actually released. A note of warning to
you people who don’t want to know what is coming up: This will contain small
spoilers so you should stop reading here and go back to surfing the Pojo site.
Something
different about the monster series here is that I am not using the translations
from
Without
further ado, I give you some of the monster cards to come out of Labyrinth of
Nightmare, part I.
These are some of the monsters
that come from the Japanese set Spell of Mask. I’m not going to cover every single monster as
you know every set has its deadbeats (i.e. Science Soldier) that aren’t worth
my time.
Masked Hellraiser
--------------------
This ritual monster will
definitely be popular. There will be
decks focused entirely on this guy. It
has stats of 3200/1800 and is a level 8 monster, which means you’ll have to
sacrifice monsters that total 8 stars.
When he’s released, he’ll be one of the most powerful playable monsters
in the game.
Fisherbeast
-------------
This monster has no
effect, but I thought it’s high attack was worth
mentioning. He’s an aqua monster with
stats of 2400/2000 and only a level 6.
It’s pretty much the water version of beast of talwar. If you’re going to use a sea deck, this
should fit your theme quite nicely.
Nuvia the Tempting Goddess
--------------------------------
This level 4 monster has
stats of 2000/800, but of course there is an effect to counteract the high
attack. She can only be set. If she is summoned without being set first, she
is destroyed. And on top of that, she loses
200 ATK points for each monster the opponent controls. This card really isn’t worth the trouble
since she’s probably going to be around 1600 most of the time. Just stick with your regular monsters.
Panther Lady
---------------
This is a weak monster by
the stats, but the effect is the interesting part. You sacrifice the monster while it is face
up. If you sacrifice her, you can put 1
of your monsters destroyed in combat back on top of your deck. It may seem good a first, but the only
monsters that are really worth the effect are high attack monsters. And you’ll have to end up tributing
for most of those monsters again, so this is pretty much a waste of space.
Friend Slaying Knight
------------------------
Here we get another level
4 monster with an attack of 2000. The
effect here says that you have to sacrifice one of your monster
during your standby phase, or else this monster is destroyed. This could be good when Scapegoat is
released, which gives you 4 monster tokens, but those tokens will run out
eventually. You’re better off using a
dark elf or similar monsters because the cost of this monster is too great.
Amazon Archer
-----------------
This monster has an effect
that burn decks might want to consider.
You sacrifice 2 of your monsters to do 1200 damage to the opponent’s
LP. I think the cost is too high for
this monster, but if you’re using cannon soldiers, you might want to consider
this as it does a little bit more damage than the soldier does.
Red Guard
------------
This monster has the same
effect as the Panther Lady, but you put the monster at the bottom of your deck
instead of the top. It can be good if
you want to reuse a monster, but not at that certain point in time. In that sense, it would be better to use this
than Panther Lady, but I think it’s still a waste of space.
Big Bang Girl
---------------
This monster says whenever
you gain LP, do 500 damage to the opponent’s LP. This card can be evil when comboed with Solemn Wishes.
However, this monster only has stats of 1300/1500 so you’re not going to
keep it around long enough to do much damage.
Hysterical Angel
------------------
Here we get another 1800 4
star monster. But this one actually has
a positive effect, though you wont use it that
often. You sacrifice two of your
monsters to gain 1000 LP. At least the
effect isn’t detrimental. The LP gain is
too low to be too effective, but it can be effective in a pinch. I works better if
you control some of the opponent’s cards to sacrifice.
Caring Nun
----------------------
At the very least, you get
a high defense monster with this. This
monster has stats of 850/2000. But you
are allowed to sacrifice this monster to return 1 of your monsters that was
destroyed in battle back to your hand.
