Legacy of Darkness - Part 5

By wartortle32

Seeing as how I got positive feedback on the last set of articles I wrote, I decided that I would do the same thing for the next set, Legacy of Darkness, that I did for Labyrinth of Nightmare to help you guys who have no idea what is coming.  For those of you who are more experienced duelists or for you Japanese duelists, there probably isn’t a reason for you to read through this as you should have a good idea what’s coming.  A note of warning:  these next series of articles will contain spoilers so if you don’t want to know what cards will be coming, stop reading now and go back to pojo.  And yes, I’m using Edo’s translations again for these spoilers.  Note that the name of these cards will almost never be exactly the same when they are released in English as Upperdeck likes to change the names around.  Edo’s site is http://www.stormpages.com/edhrzic/Yugioh.htm

I’m not going to give the exact wording, just the jist of it.

Like last time, I will break this up into 6 parts.  LoD will be composed of the Japanese sets Struggle of Chaos and Mythological Age.  In part 5, I’m going to look at the monsters to come out of Struggle of Chaos

Hades: King of the Underworld

-----------------------------------

This level 6 2450 attack monster negates the effects of all opponent’s monsters that your fiend monsters destroy in battle.  Unfortunately, this card cannot be summoned from your grave.  For fiend decks, this will be a perfect fit with Dark Necrofear.  Plus, the attack is only 50 points less than Summoned skull and 50 more than Jinzo.

Dark Baltar

-------------

This level 5 2000 attack fusion monster lets you negate any normal magic card played by paying 1000LP.  Plus, any monsters that you destroy in battle with this card do not get their effects.  This card would have been awesome as a regular monster, but since it is a fusion, that hurts it a little.  But with the cards released in LoN to help you fuse cards faster, it shouldn’t be too big of a problem.  Then 2000 Atk isn’t too good as it will easily be overpowered in today’s metgame.

Lesser Demon

---------------

This monster removes all monsters that it destroys in battle from the game.  When combined with Hades, this is a very annoying card.  Not only do the opponent’s monsters not get their effects, they wont be able to revive them anymore either.  But with only 2100 attack for a level 5 monster, it isn’t too powerful.

Haunting Blood Soul

-----------------------

This monster lets you sacrifice itself to gain control of one of your opponent’s level 3 or less monsters.  I don’t see this as too useful of a card.  The opponent usually wont run many good level 3 or less monsters unless he’s using some sort of stall, jinzo #7 deck, in which case it would be very useful.  Not much better than a side deck card though.

Skull Knight

--------------

If you sacrifice this monster to summon a fiend monster, you can then summon another Skull Knight from your deck.  This card would be pretty good in a fiend deck.  It basically gives you a free summon, which you can take advantage of through united we stand of something similar.  The attack isn’t that strong though, so if you leave it in attack mode, it may get pummeled.

Twin Headed Kerberos

-------------------------

If you have other fiend monsters on the field, negate the effects of any flip effect monsters that this monster destroys by battle.  With only 1500 attack, it wont survive long, but the effect is very nice to take care of cyber jar or penguin soldier.  A very good card for fiend decks.

Undefeated General

-----------------------

This level 5 2300 attack monster negates all magic cards that target this monster.  During your draw phase, you can choose to put a level 4 warrior from your deck to your hand instead of drawing a card.  The effect is really good if you’re running low on monsters.  And the effect prevents the opponent from snatch stealing it or using change of heart.  A staple for warrior decks.

Catapult Troops

------------------

This level 4 2000 defense monster lets you sacrifice a warrior monster from your field to destroy one opponent’s monster with defense less than or equal to this monster’s attack.  With only 900 attack, you’ll probably only be using this to destroy geminis or other 1800 attack monsters.  But with a single powerup, you can destroy Jinzo or Summoned Skull.  At the very least, the high defense should replace all those other level 4 2000 defense monsters that you might be using.

Troop Commander

---------------------

While this monster is on the field, your other warrior monsters cannot be attacked.  When you summon this monster, you can special summon a level 4 or less warrior from your hand.  It provides a good defense for your other warriors, but with only 1200 attack, it needs a mage power or a united we stand to protect it.  Definitely should be an option for you if you’re using the weaker warrior monsters.

Dragon Warrior

------------------

This monster lets you negate a normal trap at a cost of 1000 LP.  This also stops and negates all magic cards that target this card.  With a seven tools effect, this monster can provide your other warrior protection from mirror force and those other nasty traps.  It’s a level 6 monster with only 2000 attack though.

Holy Defender

----------------

This monster’s flip effect returns 1 face-up monster to the top of it’s owner’s deck.  Then, if you have a warrior on the field, you can return 1 face up monster to the owner’s hand.  This card is similar to penguin soldier, but it’s hurt by the fact that it can only return face up monsters.  The ability to return to the top of the deck makes this similar to a time seal but since it can only return face up monsters, I would personally stick with the penguin soldier.

Border Wiseman

-------------------

While this monster is face up on your field, it negates and destroys all magic cards that target your warrior monsters.  That also includes your own magic cards, meaning you cant equip anything.  It will definitely make it harder for your opponent to get around your monsters, but it doesn’t protect from mass aiming effects like dark hole.

Initiate Troops

-----------------

You can sacrifice this monster to destroy 1 monster on the field.  This monster is limited to 1 in Japan and I expect the same to apply here.  It’s a great way to destroy those really powered up monsters or perhaps a Jinzo that is stopping all your traps.  Plus, you can get it into your hand with Undefeated General

Tyrant Dragon

----------------

This level 8 2900 attack monster can attack twice during your battle phase is your opponent has a monster on the field.  This monster also negates any trap cards that target it.  If you summon this from your grave, you have to sacrifice a dragon to do so.  This will be one of the most popular cards in the set.  No doubt it will be an ultra rare.  With a united we stand or mage power attached, this could easily win the game in 1 turn.  Highly recommended for dragon decks.

Spear Dragon

----------------

This level 4 1900 attack monster has a built in Fairy’s meteor crush ability.  But after it attacks, it has to go to defense mode.  Not a bad monster.  It’s a great way to take care of those pesky scapegoats or flip effect monsters.  Plus with 1900 attack, it can go head to head with geminis.

Death Demon Dragon

-------------------------

This fusion monster negates all flip effects and destroys and negates any trap card that targets this card.  This isn’t a very good monster.  It’s attack is only 2000 and you get the same effect with Royal Command.  Plus, there aren’t even that many targeted traps besides Magic Cylinder, so that second effect isn’t that much use.

Grand Dragon

----------------

This level 4 2000 attack monster isn’t all that bad.  It cant be summoned while you have other monsters on the field and it cant attack if you don’t have a dragon on the field.  You can simply get past all these restrictions by simply summoning it the first turn, and then playing a dragon on your next turn.  At the very least, you can get an offensive wall out of this monster if you cant attack.

Grey Wing

------------

This level 3 1300 attack monster lets you discard one card from your hand during your main phase 1.  Then this monster can attack twice during your battle phase.  It’s basically like a hayabusa, with 1000 more attack.  That 300 usually wont make much of a difference.  The cost of discarding wont be a problem if you can discard something like sinister serpent, but I would still stick with Hayabusa.
