Subject: Article #1: Beatdown on a Budget

I know there are alot of Yu-Gi-Oh players out there that do not have access to the power cards. If you are one of them, this article is for you.

To inform you newer players, there are plenty of Common and Normal Rare cards that compliment a basic Beatdown (As you wil see...). You will be missing alot of the tournament cards, but it willl easily beat your next door neighbor who thinks his 100-card Gate Guardian deck is all powerful.

I will list the rarity of the card along with the set abbreviation off to the right.

-Monster- 19

3x La Jinn The Mystical Genie of the Lamp (Starter Deck - Common)
3x 7 Colored Fish (MRD - Common)
3x Harpie's Brother (PSV - Common)
3x Summoned Skull (Starter Deck - Common)
3x Man-Eater Bug (Starter Deck - Common)
2x Magician of Faith (MRD - Normal Rare)
1x Cyber Jar (MRL - Normal Rare)
1x Witch of the Black Forest (MRD - Normal Rare)

La Jinn, 7 Colored Fish, and Harpie's Brother are good commons that need little to no explaining. They all do quick attacks for 1800 then repeat.

Summoned Skull is great for large, fast beats. And with six weenie effect Monsters, he has plenty to use as Tribute.

Since the deck will not be running Raigeki or Mirror Force, three Man-Eater Bug were a must.

Magician of Faith is one of those cards that will always be good. Only two are needed because most of the good Magic cards are foils.

Witch is great for Tributing and/or searching for Summoned Skull/Cyber Jar.

Cyber Jar is an excellent comeback card. And it's only a Normal Rare!

I would of added White Magicial Hat, but without Axe of Despair they're not as great. And since I'm keeping this deck foil-free, Axe isn't going to be used.

-Magic- 13

3x Malevolent Nuzzler (MRL - Common)
3x Fissure (Starter Deck - Common)
3x Tremendous Fire (MRD - Common)
1x Pot of Greed (LOB - Normal Rare)
1x Change of Heart (Starter Deck - Common)
1x Dark Hole (Starter Deck - Common)
1x Monster Reborn (Starter Deck - Common)

Malevolent Nuzzler powers up your Monsters in order to deal with opposing Dark Elf, Jirai Gumo, Goblin Attack Force, and even high DEF Monsters. It can also be resused if need be.

Fissure is simple, drawback-less Monster removal. Helps clear the field.

Tremendous fire deals an effective 1000 direct damage. Great when you're in a pinch.

Pot of Greed, Change of Heart, Monster Reborn and Dark Hole are all extremely broken. If you need an explanation, you shouldn't be playing Yu-Gi-Oh. :)

-Trap- 8

3x Waboku (Starter Deck - Common)
3x Trap Hole (Starter Deck - Common)
2x Robbin' Goblin (MRD - Normal Rare)

For those of you that play(ed) Magic: The Gathering, Waboku is basically a Fog. And a free Fog is always good.

Trap Hole is one of the best Monster removal cards. Not only does it destroy a Monster, but it does it on your opponent's turn setting them back an attack.

Since this deck doesn't play alot of the restricted cards, might as well and attempt to strip them away from your opponent. A timed Robbin' Goblin can be devastating for your opponent, as well as difficult to recover from.

As you get them, the more expensive restricted cards can be gradually added to the deck making it more tournament worthy. Don't be discouraged if you don't get them quickly, I guarantee you are not the only one without them.

-Side Deck-

3x De-Spell (Starter Deck - Common)
3x Remove Trap (Starter Deck - Common)
2x Nobleman of Extermination (PSV - Normal Rare)
...

De-Spell can be sided in versus Messenger of Peace based decks while Remove Trap can be sided in versus Gravity Bind based decks. Without these, you won't have a good chance at all of defeating them.

Nobleman of Extermination can be sided in versus Counter Trap heavy decks. If it's a Magic Jammer or Solemn Judgment that you target, they either have to counter it or lose them all from their deck.

I only listed 8 of the 15 cards you can have in this Side Deck for the fact that all enviroments are different. In some areas Direct Damage may be popular while in others it may be extinct. The same goes for just about every deck type.

Playtest around in your local area and see what you can add into your Side Deck.

And this concludes Beatdown on Budget. I hope those of you that requested this are satisfied. Be assured, this will not be the last deck on a budget that I will write!

Expect my next article to be a Deck Review on one of my personal decks.
