Article #2: One of my personal decks – Clown Control (CC)

Out of all of the decks that I use at the local tournaments, this has to be my favorite one. Around here, we’ve had four Season 2 Tournaments. So far, this deck has won three of them. I took 2nd place at the one I didn’t win. The tournaments I go too aren’t a walk in the park either.

Special Props go out to Tom L. for first showing me a rough copy of the deck. Now the current version…

Now for a Card by Card analysis…

Dream Clown – The main base of the deck. With a Gravity Bind on the field, as well as some protection (Prohibition/Counter Trap), two Clowns on the field can keep me in complete Monster control. Two Clowns means that I can destroy one Monster a turn. Thus giving my Lvl. 3 weenies a pathway for them to attack.

Crass Clown – Though it doesn’t destroy, it still opens up pathways just the same. Almost like playing five Dream Clowns.

Giant Soldier of Stone – Decent ATK, great DEF. Helpful against all the effect-less Lvl. 4’s.

White Magical Hat – Excellent disruption, adds to the Control theme. Less cards means less options for my opponent.

Hayabusa Knight – Great with or without Axe when lock is in place. I couldn’t ask for a better Lvl. 3.

Sangan – Can be used to search for anything in the deck, primarily clowns. Since it’s a Lvl. 3, it can attack decently if the lock is set up.

Magician of Faith - …

Goddess of Whim – Can be very good or very bad. One of these work fine.

Cyber Jar - …

Axe of Despair – Works well with every Monster in the deck, especially Hayabusa Knight. I can even attach these to MoF if need be.

Mystical Space Typhoon – No Heavy Storms because they backfire too much in this deck. These work great as a replacement.

Prohibition – The first one played should always be on Heavy Storm, if you manage to draw a 2nd, name Jinzo or Mystical Space Typhoon. Prohibition is ideal for keeping the lock.

Messenger of Peace – These are in here so I have more chances at drawing a stall card. They work well vs. Jinzo as well.

Dark Hole - …

Raigeki - …

Pot of Greed - …

Monster Reborn – Pulling back Dream Clown.

Premature Burial – Ditto.

Call of the Haunted – The same goes for CotH. It works better than the above two, because you can use it during your opponent’s turn, allowing you to use Dream Clown’s effect on your upcoming turn.

Gravity Bind – Essential to the deck.

Magic Jammer – I only use two because drawing these at a bad time can really screw you over, not to mention it gives me more room to use other cards while staying at 40.

Imperial Order – Here’s my 3rd Magic Jammer…

Mirror Force - …

Ceasefire – Look at all the effect Monsters I play. Even if my opponent doesn’t use any, I can still deal some nice damage. Helps out when I’m against Megamorph decks too.

If you’re wondering what I use in my Side Deck, here it goes. Keep in mind this is to combat my local metagame.

-Side Deck- 15

1 – Witch of the Black Forest
1 – Jinzo
1 – Prohibition
1 – Axe of Despair
2 – Nobleman of Crossout
1 – Swords of Revealing Light
1 – Card Destruction
1 – Delinquent Duo

1 – Snatch Steal
2 – Heavy Storm
2 – Robbin’ Goblin
1 - Magic Jammer

Against a mirror match up or another Gravity Bind based deck, what I usually do is side out all my stall cards (Messenger/Gravity Bind), and side in a bunch of restricted cards as well as Witch of the Black Forest and Jinzo. I sometimes use the 3rd Axe as well.

When I’m up against a burn deck, I’ll drop the stall cards and throw in the Nobleman of Crossout and Heavy Storm for the most part. I may even add a 3rd Prohibition if need be.

Versus Exodia, I also drop the Stall cards. What I normally add is: Card Destruction, Robbin’ Goblin, and Heavy Storm. I used to play Soul Release, but Exodia isn’t big in my area (Only one person besides me has one).

And of course there are all the Beatdown variants. I’ll just side in whatever I feel will give me some advantage.

And that’s that. I hope you enjoyed it!
