Dark Paladin

Monday

Shutendoji is our card to open the week, an interesting Zombie monster, of the Earth attribute, with 1500 attack and 800 defense, both of which suck for a monster that is Level 4. Now, we have a monster with two effects, one of which you can activate once per turn.

Are either of these effects any good? The first effect is you can remove from play two Zombie monsters from your Graveyard to Draw one card from your Deck. That's a -1 obviously, unless you turn what you Draw into advantage, and you probably can't do this too early in the game, as you might not have the necessary cards to remove from your Graveyard.

Secondly, you can select a Zombie monster you have removed from play, oddly enough, and add it back to the top of your Deck. Not bad again, but not that great either. If you can keep him on the Field, he can sort of recycle cards he removes, but he's weak, and I don't see him staying on the Field long. He doesn't even add this card back to your Hand so unless you really need the card you're recycling, don't do it.

Shutendoji

Starting off this week, we have one of the OCG ZOmbie imports that had people all astir for a while. One of these sold at one of my sneaks for 45 right after it was pulled. The stats are ok, 1500ATK and 800 DEF on an EARTH Zombie with 4 stars. The cool thing is that both of the zombie recruiters and searchers can get him. Giant Rat, Pyramid Turtle, Sangan and Goblin Zombie can all search him out.

The effects are what make this guy mroe worthwhile. Once per turn you can remove from play 2 Zombies in your graveyard in order to draw 2 cards OR Return a removed from play Zombie to the top of the deck. These effects are great, but slower than what the zombie deck actually wants to do. The current Zombie deck has the ability to win on turn 2 or three, and wasting your Normal Summon on this guy when it could be Plaguspreader, Goblin Zombie or Zombie Master is not prudent.

On the plus side, if you are ever down on cards, or just in a top deck war, this guy is just what the doctor ordered. Removing useless ZOmbies to draw extra cards is always nice, and this guy can really turn calamity into victory. The second effect is great for getting some reuse out of your Mezukis and Plaguspreaders when you do not have a Burial handy, which is a problem for the zombie deck.

I do think that you can find a place for this card in a Zombie deck, just not sure what you would take out for it. For now, it is a little slow, but really powerful so I could see it being splashed at one to try it out.

Today’s card up for review is Shutendoji. I see unlimited potential in this guy in my eyes. You can search for him off Goblin Zombie, Pyramid Turtle, Sangan and even Giant Rat if you wanted to. Both of his effects are kinda cool. Zombies load the yard pretty fast and easily, and they already use burials, so the draw effect may be alright. The second effect is the one that I like the most. Why is that? You can add Mezuki and Plague back to the top of the deck. Obviously, you’d rather put them back in the yard with Burial, but I can see this effect being useful if you have Brionac on the board, or if you have a way to sync with Plague, then resynchro. What’s nice is what all you can do with Zombies, but the question is, will anybody try it out? In my opinion, I would say no, just because you are forced to use other cards because of the meta, but maybe in the future

Shutendoji ...

An earth Zombie. I like this card. He's got the basics. 4 stars. 1500 ATK making him searchable by almost everything people use, yet still capable of fighting respectably. And he plays with the grave, which is what zombies do best. By removing 2 zombie monsters in your grave from play, u can draw 1 card. A card that can essentially regenerates your hand presence once u get him to the field? That alone should make a zombie player interested in him. Plus removing cards from play can set up for bigger plays down the road. And if need be - with Shutendoji's 2nd effect, he can replace a removed from play zombie (possibly one he removed from play himself) back to the top of the deck ... Back to the hand would have been better. Or if u could activate BOTH effects in the same turn ... that would be criminal ... But Shutendoji is still pretty cool.

U play Zombies - get one. Give it a shot.

Thanksgiving's behind us and a new week of reviews lies ahead. Starting off this week is Shutendoji, the newest Zombie to be released. Now, this card is ok but I don't think this card can be used in any main stream Zombie deck. 1500 attack leaves it vulnerable to any high attack monster. Its effect isn't all that bad either. You can either remove 2 Zombie monsters in your graveyard to draw 1 card or you can return one of your removed Zombies to the top of your deck. Personally I only see Shutendoji useful for returning Mezuki or Plaguespreader to the top of your deck, and most people would prefer to use Burial from a Different Dimension instead. Removing 2 Zombies I think would call for an entirely different deck, based on Giant Rat and Pyramid Turtles, but that's just my opinion.
