Taking a little break from Assault Mode, we come to Blackwing Armor Master, a new set of cards from Japan, and this is an interesting Synchro. We have a Winged Beast Synchro, who is Level 7 with 2500 attack (meh) and 1500 defense (crap) who requires a specific Tuner, a Blackwing, and 1 or more non-Tuner type monsters.

Blackwing has some awesome effects. First, not being able to be destroyed by Battle is great, although your opponent knows that, so it forces them to find a different way to destroy. Now, usually you could be attacked anyway and be hurt, but not here.

Blackwing also doesn't allow you to take Battle Damage from battles involving this card. When Blackwing attacks, you can place a wedge counter on the monster at the end of the Damage Step (max 1). You can remove all wedge counters from your opponent's monsters to reduce the attack and defense of all monsters that had a wedge counter to 0 until the End Phase.

Honestly, I think this is the slowest and worst effect of the card.
Why? If your opponent has many monsters, say three or more, that's at least three attack to use that effect and clear the Field. Not a bad card, but the other effects are better.

General Zorpa Blackwing Armor Master

This is the second best SYnchro in the set. He cannot die in battle and he can reduce any monster that he battled with's ATK to 0. Not to mention that you don't take any battle damage from any battle involving him. That sounds like a winner to me, but his stats may say otherwise.

Well, they don't. A level 7 monster with 2500 ATK is pretty good and a DARK Winged Beast is nice. The main thing that makes this guy good is that he is a Blackwing monster, allowing him to be extremely easily summoned through their plethora of monsters and support cards.

Normally you would get Dark Strike Fighter instead of him, but he has his uses and will probably be a tech Synchro in Blackwing decks that will dominate once RGBT comes out. I can tell you that I have tested the deck, without any of the excellent RGBT support, and it consistently won by turn 4. At least one of these in every Blackwing deck is just fine, and as it requires a Blackwing to be Synchro SUmmoned, it is useless everywhere else.

Today’s card up for review is Blackwing Armor Master. Not too shabby of a card I must say. To be honest, his second effect doesn’t even matter. The effects on Blackwings will get the job done, especially with the cards they are getting in the next set. The first part of his effect is pretty cool though. He takes no battle Damage and can’t be killed in battle. It is hard to say how good this card is. I haven’t really messed around with Blackwings yet. I am waiting for the next set, for when  they should be the top deck then!

Blackwing Armor Master is the first Synchro monster for Blackwing monsters. It needs a Blackwing Tuner and other non-Tuner monsters. In a Blackwing deck, doing this is very simple as it only needs two cards. Blackwing Armor Master has 2500 ATK which is normal for a level 7 monster and with a good effect.

Blackwing Armor Master cannot be destroyed in battle just like a Spirit Reaper and also you will not take any damage either. It can still be destroyed by the effects of cards though. When Blackwing Armor Master attacks you put a Wedge counter on the monster it attacks, if it is still alive after the attack. Next turn you can remove the counter to give that monster no ATK and DEF for the rest of the turn.

Its great when the monster is in attack mode for the automatic 2500 damage, but as for defense it would just be a crumbling brick wall still in the way to your opponent's life points. Not being destroyed by battle and no battle damage is great, but when there is an effect that takes two turns to do, that monster may be gone by that time because the opponent is able to do something after that turn. I wouldn't like it if I used a Wedge counter to put a monsters attack down to 0 and they play Crush Card Virus right after that.

Blackwing Armor Master ...

Ok, so here's the sitch ... the new monster crew - the Blackwings - they need a heavy hitter ... and here it is! ... Oh, don't be so shocked ... In this day and age - its pretty much guaranteed that it'd be a Synchro.

Now the question remains - is the BWAM any good? ... Short answer? - No.

The Blackwings are a pretty cool little crew ... Keep an eye out for them to become a very respectable deck type. But BWAM does nothing for them. He's got problems all over the place. Level 7? - its not the worst ... We use Black Rose Dragon, don't we? And she's a Level 7. But BWAM isnt in the Black Rose's league. 2500 ATK is just painfully low for a Level 7, and his effect doesnt make up for it. BWAM must attack a monster in order to give it a counter. To then remove the counter, your battle phase must end, meaning u must then wait till the NEXT turn to reduce a monster's ATK to 0 in order to kill it. By then, your opponent may have come up with a counter measure for BWAM, or tributed their exposed monster off the field. And the 2nd effect? - Well, more often than not, most duelist will deal with20a 2500 ATK monster with a spell, trap, or special effect. So his protection from getting killed in battle becomes something of a waste.

The only good I can see coming out of this is if u can Synchro him, and then use a faceup Blackwing Sirrico's effect to add BWAM's 2500 ATK (+ whatever other Blackwing are on the field) to 1 monster, to potentially swing for the win ...

Its still not a great card, but if (and ONLY if) u are playing Blackwings, then i'd add him to my extra deck .... otherwise?

nah.

Blackwing Armor Master

Possibly my favorite card from Crimson Crisis, Blackwing Armor Master. With how Blackwings swarm the field with Gale of the Whirlwinds and Bora the Spears, its very easy to summon Armor Master. Its effect is rather beastly too. It cannot be destroyed in battle and you take no battle damage in battles its in. It also allows you to place a Wedge Counter on any monster it battles, and by removing all the Wedge Counters from your opponents monsters it reduces the monsters that had counters attack to 0.

Now, since we know it cant be destroyed in battle, against a Stardust Dragon or Goyo Guardian, stuff like this, Armor Master can easily take them down with either his effect or just because he cant be destroyed in battle. Having these effects means the only way you can really get around him is by destroying him with a card effect or something a tad more complex like taking control of it and tributing it for one of your own monsters.

I expect good things from this card this format.

This card will probably played in Black Wing DDT or the build that could be teched with the old teledad stuff but Black Wings will not be all that good until the set release of Raging Battle.
